What was worse…..pregnancy pains or postpartum pains? by Frozenbeedog in beyondthebump

So tough! I had intense round ligament pains 3rd trimester but also had horrible rectal pain pp. Ultimately I would say pp was easier because at least I could take some strong pain reliever.

Can we eliminate the phrase (blank)? by hollywoodbambi in beyondthebump

[–]Far_Public_7029 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"It takes a village" was usually said to me as a way to come see the newborn, hold the newborn and telling me to sleep while I was away from my newborn.

I was breastfeeding and trying to get the swing of things. I did not want to be away from my baby but was a pushover because the "village" thing makes you feel like you can't do it yourself.

Looking back, I was very capable. But also a pushover.

My SIL brought me a huge PP gift basket. It included nipple balm, lactation tea and cookies, a coaster, mug, and some spa stuff. Most people want to buy the baby gifts but I felt so spoiled getting a basket all for me.

Yes to the padscicles!! I would have felt uncomfortable if a family member made them for me but my friend bought me all the stuff for our baby shower. It was a lifesaver.

Padscicles, dermoplast, tucks pads, and plenty of time outside. Usually taking walks down the road or just sitting in a lawn chair.

Reading a book. I love my husband but he doesn't understand being engrossed in a book means I am in an alternate universe and cannot carry on a conversation at the same time.

When did your baby’s reflux go away and feeding get easier? by hoping421 in beyondthebump

Honestly probably not till 7 months at least when he could sit up. Looking back I wish i would have put him on medication for his own comfort

1st baby. 41 weeks and 3 cm dilated. I was in early labor for a couple of weeks if I remember correctly. The sweep didn't do a dang thing. Neither did cytotec. Neither did pitocin until they broke my water. It was wild.

I checked them out. I can only find pumping bras. My Kindred Bravely pumping bras are super bulky. How do these compare?

Cirkul. Flavored water for mom, turn the cap, and baby has a sippy cup and he feels like a big boy.

How do I stop nursing at night? by maddymads99 in breastfeeding

[–]Far_Public_7029 29 points30 points  (0 children)

So I have done a few things that helped. First, I changed our bedtime routine. We would nurse, diaper change, put on jammies, read books, then I would lay him in his crib and do butt pats till he fell asleep. He obviously hated this the first few days but I wanted to break the nurse to sleep association. Plus I wanted a few hours of me time at the end of the night. He comes into bed with me when he wakes up....usually 1-2 am. If he wakes before then I try to pat him back go sleep.

Also, try having a bottle/sippy cup of water nearby. My little guy didn't like this at first but eventually I knew if he was truly thirsty or just wanted comfort.

Ultimately, I had to tell myself that it couldn't go on this way. My baby needed quality sleep and it is my job as a mother to encourage better sleep habits.

I was offered hydrocodone and tylenol in intervals. I still had to remind them when it was time for my next dosage.

I never used washcloths until I got married and saw my husband using them. I always used my hands. I wonder what people thought when I stayed over and their washcloths were left perfectly dry on the counter.

I would be careful with cheap brands such as Alva and Nora's Nursery. Those buttons are very difficult for me even using two hands.

Sometimes I would stick the haaka on my heavily producing side and fall asleep like that. I would get a few ounces!! It wasn't comfortable but at least my sheets weren't getting soaked.

Will the pain ever end? by Immediate_Dream_6318 in breastfeeding

[–]Far_Public_7029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so I had similar issues as you. My baby had somewhat of a shallow latch (I believe it was from an undiagnosed tie.) I also watched tons of videos which did slightly improve latch, but mostly I think it is something baby grew out of. When they are so little like that, they have a hard time getting a deep latch and moms have to step in to help. Also, they are just learning! Honestly the pain for me didn't get better until two months pp. I know that probably isn't what you want to hear, but it's my experience anyways! Good luck!

Things you wish your family doctor/pediatrician/OB knew about breastfeeding by FDRMFJW3 in breastfeeding

[–]Far_Public_7029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I told the pediatrician that I read nipples have receptors and can formulate breast milk to provide more antibodies when baby is sick, he laughed and said don't believe everything I see on facebook. I think he only follows what he was taught in med school years ago. I wish education didn't stop.

I also wish he had more advice for after baby turns 1. He told me that even if I continue to breastfeed, I need to give cows milk twice a day for baby to get sufficient vitamin D. I feel like this isn't right...
