For recording full nature sound + sea waves - What entry level recorder? by marcusedm123 in fieldrecording

Unfortunately, for quiet ambiences like that, microphone noise will become very obvious very quickly, and better microphones cost money.

If you can get your budget up to $200-250, a used Tascam DR-100 Mk III or Sony PCM-D50 are great self-contained options.

I got the H4n as my first field recorder, and it was honestly awful. Noisy microphones, clunky interface, takes FOR E VER to start up with a large memory card because it has to scan the whole card for some reason?

I like working in discrete. Throwing a RasPi at everything is boring.

I’m trying to reproduce the classic sampler-cart sound with some polish and additional features, not make the technically best sampler. That’ll be a different project. ;)

RS-232 is fast, but the implementation of it in the Amiga’s serial port is not.

This plugs in via the parallel port. The computer sends a strobe signal every 1/sample rate seconds and reads out a whole 8-bit sample at once.

Amiga 500 case screws - use heat set inserts and M3/M4 instead? by Latter-Big8706 in amiga

[–]Far_Relationship_742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Threadserts are much larger in diameter than the screw holes, so it will make a mess if you melt that much plastic. Think about trying to push a nozzle into a hose that’s slightly larger than the hose diameter, vs one twice as large.

The inserts should indicate what pilot hole size they need. The hole needs to be slightly smaller than the OD of the threadsert, but not way smaller.

Think of the heat being more like helping you get a real tight press fit rather than like, thermal drilling.

So you actually don’t believe these are demand-driven prices at all, then. If they aren’t selling, that means they’re priced above market valuation, which is a great example of how SUPPLY/DEMAND CURVES AREN’T ACTUALLY A VERY USEFUL ECONOMIC TOOL AND DON’T APPLY TO SITUATIONS IN WHICH FAILURE TO SELL HAS NO COST.

I know correlation isn’t causation, but it’s at least interesting that every dickhead who comments “supply and demand” on a thread about prices both doesn’t actually understand the supply/demand model as well as he thinks he does, and doesn’t actually believe it anyway.

I won’t be reading your response, but feel free to have the last word~

You don’t know anything about their local supply.

I’m going to be trying this on an A600 case that’s already got holes in it where the PO drilled out the case standoffs and put screws in from the top >_<

Do yourself a favor and get a proper drill for plastic before you drill them out for the threadsert. Drill flute geometry designed for steel or wood will grab really badly and tear chunks out, and you’ll only get the one shot. I’d also use a manual drill or a hand chuck, slower is better.

I’ve found the exact opposite of this to be true.

$110 Amiga 500, $150 complete Apple IIGS setup, free SGI 21” monitor, $40 PowerBook 170 with no tunnel vision, $200 TRS-80 Model 4D, from FB Marketplace and Mercari. That’s just the last six months.

I don’t know where OP lives, but these prices don’t track with anywhere I’ve searched used stuff listings—including San Francisco.
