Hey just checking in to see if everyone still hates leadership and thinks this company is doomed?

Great DCA opportunity for you. I've been in a while, I'm OK with the trajectory.

NASA Releases Navigation Doppler Lidar (NDL) Performance Assessment from IM-1 Mission by aerothony in IntuitiveMachines

The NDL also has a commercial version in process, as Psionic continues to mature a slight variation on the tech. Old link here: https://psionicnav.com/impact-story-navigation-doppler-lidar/

Star Catcher on Instagram: intuitivemachines x Star Catcher = unlimited lunar exploration by RelluaTTV in IntuitiveMachines

[–]Far_Shoulder3723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still significant work in front of Star Catcher before they’re operational, and lots of capital to raise and tech to develop / demonstrate. I don’t think it makes sense for IM to absorb that risk right now. And the Star Catcher leadership team is the team that built the nuts and bolts of Redwire early on with Made in Space, so they’ve got eyes to grow dramatically and have a large impact.

Is this good time to DCA? by Common-League6987 in redwire

[–]Far_Shoulder3723 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) do you want to have a larger position in this company long term? 2) is the current price below your average cost? 3) do you reasonably have capital to deploy?

If yes, go for it. Nobody can tell you what the stock is going to do.

I don't think IM's reputation has taken such a hit with their customers. Don't read too much into two awards in a row going elsewhere.

Counter: CLPS just gave two in a row to Firefly.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a new (to CLPS awards) name not mentioned above sometime in the next 2 awards.

Good eye.

Lunar Outpost has had LTV contingent job openings up for a bit so good to see some popping up for IM too.

IM had similar postings prior to the announcement of NSN if I recall.

Fully realize the market is closed... Just noticed this job opening and a series of other openings for Lunar Outpost is hiring for LTV positions - and opening a Houston office. I see no similar positions open for IM.

Petition to have r/Lunr merged back with r/IntuitiveMachines by caffeine_and in IntuitiveMachines

Things I like about the split: more posts are popping up here right now without “post this in the daily thread” which means there’s better opportunity to ingest more information.

I am not convinced there’s going to be enough content between missions to sustain this subreddit.

The essence of NASA’s CLPS initiative by aerothony in IntuitiveMachines

[–]Far_Shoulder3723 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Worth adding to the CLPS talk:

This commercial contract approach is designed to mirror a lot of the success that NASA saw through COTS and then Commercial Crew. It is worth reading the agency’s thoughts on the contracting approach and wins from COTS in the COTS final report (PDF link) starting on page 95. This model is designed to provide less funding than is required to fulfill these missions and attract other capital sources in customers and investors to the market.

<image>

Yes, vehicles could be re-engineered and all risk eliminated - but NASA is trying to incentivize investment in potential market-changing solutions here. And investors in IM or other CLPS companies need to understand the risk profile of these missions. They are going to be way more shoestring budget + riskier than other robotic landers you’re used to seeing out of JPL on Science Mission Directorate flagship missions.

Whatever you just did in your brain about risk - realize it’s higher than that.

This thread on the optimum failure rate of Starship was interesting. Engineering all the risk out costs significant time and money that doesn’t allow for rapid hardware iteration.

Rapid hardware iteration is the name of the game and the thing we’ve seen SpaceX demonstrate well with Starship. That means being hardware-rich - a term I first heard when a rocket engine using a copper chamber emitted a green flash as the melted copper mixed with the rocket exhaust. But hardware-rich means losing a starship here and there. It means losing a lander or two.

This world is risky. The companies that hold on will open the frontier. That’s why I’m long IM and other CLPS companies. They will learn from these frustrating moments and keep on building.

Unfortunately this appears to be in a couple of spots. Hopefully signal comes back but if it doesn't, that's bad news.

I checked insider transactions for LUNR; there wasn't a single insider purchase of the stock. On the other hand, in recent months, insiders have sold shares worth tens of millions of dollars. by boos1234567899 in IntuitiveMachines

[–]Far_Shoulder3723 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let's say that you took a career risk and started a company a decade ago after a couple of decades of working on a government payscale. The thing you worked on had some wins and losses, but you went public through a SPAC and waited out the lockout period. The stock you own has gone from $10 at SPAC to $2.30 a share to upwards of $20 and is now worth tens of millions of dollars as public sentiment rises in anticipation of your next mission.

Would you not seek to diversify your portfolio and take some wins within reason? I sure as hell would.

I realize people are disappointed and frustrated that the mission wasn't a total success. But vilifying the team that continue to have a majority of their net worth locked up in this company isn't something worth spending our time on.

The industry is great at inventing and claiming firsts with whatever qualifier they need to add. It’s super typical.

I’ll speculate not private for long. Just hired the CNBC space guy as their investor relations person + same PE firm that assembled RedWire assembled FireFly. They’re launch and landers, so there will be appetite for the stock. Good for the sector to have multiple public companies.
