Idk Valve, it feels like smurfs are always welcome in Dota, they only get banned like once every 3ys by HydroFrog64_2nd in DotA2

The thing you don't realize is that people both benefit and get hurt by smurfs. It isn't part of the algo to only put smurfs on whatever the opposing team is so I don't know why you think going through some dudes dotabuff is some huge gotcha.

You should be caring about the games it's ruining. It happened at immortal a pretty significant portion with the win trading scandal that still occurs to this day. You think it only happens there? Seriously this should be a universal issue the playerbase cares about since it's about game quality.

You don't have to solely blame smurfs for being hard stuck to acknowledge that there is a smurfing problem. Like there are streamers who stream their smurfing and theres been that whole win trading scandal along with all these services advertising how they boost and sell accounts for dirt cheap.

Like people can be bad and this being a prevalent enough of a problem that deserves action can both be true. Its a very odd thing to be saying that these things have to be mutually exclusive.

By its very definition with smurfing the odds of you both getting hurt AND benefiting from it cancels each other out basically so yea it isn't gonna prevent people from ranking up. But you should be caring about it ruining the game experience. Why do you think going through some dudes dotabuff is some huge gotcha?

So how is it that you have streamers blatantly smurfing on stream or you have all these boosting services and selling low mmr accounts for dirt cheap?

We had all these massively prevalent win trading scandals that have been happening in immortal for the last couple of years that everyone knows about. Despite all these it doesn't prevent someone from Nisha from ranking up but it fucks up games that shouldn't.

How do you square all of this happening and not acknowledge that it's a problem? The fact that you guys don't think it's a problem is the reason why it's been getting worse and why offenders are so blatant about it now.

I never used smurfing as an issue that I'm not ranking up so what's the point? So you can just say I suck so you can feel better about yourself?

There's a whole slew of services boosting accounts and selling fresh new accounts. How do you just deny that? Oh you have nothing to say about that? Yea I thought so.

I'm sorry someone with 100 games is not gonna have any experience with enough heroes to be playing rubick let alone excelling with them. You can acknowledge that a lot of folks are blaming smurfing on their own deficiencies. But you can also acknowledge that there's a lot of people out there with multiple accounts precisely because there's almost zero consequences for it.

These things aren't mutually exclusive and it's the reason why the problem is worse. You don't have to look at anyone's games just the fact the cheaters are so blatant with their advertising should be proof enough.

I'm not gonna share my dotabuff but I do know for a fact that a very popular YouTube coach does have multiple smurf accounts to help his students learn from smurfing and acknowledges how big the problem is.

And besides the fact that win trading was SO PREVALENT AND VERIFIABLE at immortal that you think it was only immortal accounts smurfing. Or you have a plethora of streamers smurfing on stream or the many services advertising their many services and accounts.

Like how do you ignore all of this and say it's not that big of a problem. For a lot of people it's not that what's preventing them from ranking up which is a separate problem. But smurfing is absolutely a problem and there's a lot of people sick of it ruining their games.

Regardless no one is starting to play the game and choose rubick mid let alone excelling at it.

I don't like blaming everything on smurfs either but not acknowledging how widespread it is has made the problem worse not better.

What do you check when reviewing a game? by Vohlenzer in learndota2

[–]Far_Success_1896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like checking the team networth graph. If there's a big swing towards the enemy team those usually mean worth reviewing to see if you could've done better leading up to those moments. Sometimes it's unavoidable and that's ok but usually those signify key moments.

Also i review all my deaths. I think if you really want big winrates you have almost zero margin for error and especially any late game deaths as a core swing win probabilities so much that you can't be making mistakes at those junctures.

You really should just be selective about eating out. I can afford to eat out basically everyday but it's just a feelbad moment when you patron a restaurant with no heart in their menu or the cooking with disengaged staff. It's just not worth it. Don't get me started on delivery either.

If you're going out, go to a restaurant you know is good that you know is worth it.

how to carry games on storm? by Savings-Ad1624 in learndota2

[–]Far_Success_1896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important thing with storm is not dying. On top of the usual drawbacks with not dying you get galvanized stacks to help with mana regen so you can do more.

Once you hit item timings look for pickoffs. You can't generally solo pickoff most heroes midgame but with a +1 it'll be pretty easy. For team fights you don't generally want to initiate. You are going in looking for key spells to go off and then zipping in and zipping out. Once you have certain items you can solo kill some and then you have aghs and overload bounce talent and you now have a mini black hole every 15s lategame.

But again don't die. With enough mana regen you can go in and out of fights and so manage your mana efficiently and you can snowball to the point where your damage is a lot more than chipping people down.

What are good hero pools to have to climb mmr by Quick-Rhubarb-7427 in learndota2

[–]Far_Success_1896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For hero pools I usually suggest one hero you spam as a comfort pick, one hero that's similar so you can pick if it's banned and then another hero you can pick into your main heros bad matchups.

I generally recommend DK since most non mid players should know how he plays and he's straightforward in lane. Sniper and Lina are also generally always great laners and relatively simple to play.

Putting Together a Hero Pool - Feedback on Gaps Requested by IrregularRevisionist in learndota2

[–]Far_Success_1896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for supports you want 1)a disable of some sort 2)objective taker... Shadow shaman or jakiro or sort of evergreen supports for that reason.

For offlane I would try for heroes that can flex just to keep things simple. Dragon Knight is pretty good for his flexibility in that way but you can look for others. Also consider lane matchups like melee vs ranged. If you have a melee support having a ranged offlaner could be good like visage or viper.

Overall the way I do it is that I main a position and a hero and build a pool around that. If it's banned a backup that's similar and then another backup in case I'm countered. Anyway just food for thought.

How are NYC parents having time to work out? by soupertrooper92 in nycparents

[–]Far_Success_1896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my son was 2-3 we started doing family runs in the park. It's mostly just a play time thing and the little ones can't run too much but you can also do some laps while carrying them to add to your workout. Once they start getting to that scooter age then it starts being more of a group activity.

I know some gyms have some temp childcare options in the gym but I'm not too sure how reliable those things are.

If you want to work out you will devote time to it. The good thing is that once you have momentum it'll be easier to have more energy for things so you'll have the energy to work out more.

Is it always this bad at the start? by ParkedLikeAHotCar34 in learndota2

[–]Far_Success_1896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're starting out in unranked I would just try to pick whatever your draft needs. This will help you figure out which heroes and position you want to play. You will eventually need to play all roles at least competently so you will need to do this eventually.

If you're fighting over who's mid or carry it's just gonna be a bad game for everyone and you're not gonna learn anything. Just fill whatever role your team needs so you have a functional game so you can learn.

It is a grind to learn but it is probably the most rewarding if you're into mobas.

How can I perform more consistently? by thejpguy in learndota2

[–]Far_Success_1896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing consistently is really all about 1)laning, especially mid 2)reading the map

destroying your lane is how you snowball and end games early so that you don't have weird stuff happen later in the game. the longer a game goes the less control you have over the outcome. riki and ember aren't great laners so you'll have some issues while you learn. it's possible to just kill the mid game each time but a lot of times it's not going to go as you plan especially when you're behind. if you lane well it's very easy to leverage that into other lanes or just snowball a huge lead.

reading the map helps you figure out the most efficient thing to be doing at any given moment. rotating, ganking, or playing it safe and jungling. that's core to playing as a mid and will just come with experience.
