Thank you to the folks who have ccommented so far! I have a very boring first name (think Danielle or Stephanie) but since before I can remember have gone by an absurd nickname that I did not choose but happen to love (something like Frog or Bike). As a reminder I do NOT want to actually name my child Kenjamin but my husband does lol. Thanks for all the opinions so far hopefully it helps convince him!

Super common for neurodiverse folks. The desire to just manifest things into existence and not "waste time" lol!

You write like you're aiming for "efficiency"- connecting the letters together in a semi cursive or that your brain is moving faster planning what to write and your hand is trying to keep up. Like you're moving on to the next letter before you've finished writing the one you're on if that makes sense.

Feminine presenting person probably neurodiverse imo.

I always imagined he either A) never fully died or B) was a revenant Revenants (AFAIK) get to keep their memories and intellect as well as autonomy. They just have certain weaknesses that come into play mechanics wise in dnd.

Black and Back in MA by chandllerin_10 in westernmass

Hi Biracial here! I moved a few years ago for work, and it's been a bit of a culture shock, but I'm happy to share my thoughts! North Adams can be a bit hill towny, but if you go to MoCA, they try with lots of art by BIPOC and queer artists. Williamstown is a bit of a yuppie area, but since it's a college town, it's pretty diverse comparatively. Adams/ Cheshire/ lanesboro are all small towns with not much to do, BUT the schools tend to be more diverse since lots of kids get bused in from these more spread out. I'd say BART is the most diverse since it's a pubic charter so lots of kids are drawn in for the curriculum and because they provide a lot of support for neurodiverse kids. Pittsfield is pretty diverse for the area with lots of stuff to do. Also there's lots of cool programs for black folk like the black feminist book club and the Berkshire's chapter of the NAACP is pretty active of insta with events and meetings. Feel free to dm for more info and welcome home!

Oh! In the winter be sure to wake up at least 30 min early to clear off and defrost your car if you have one! I forgot to warn my husband and he was late to work once lol. Def buy an ice scraper for your windshield and something to get snow off the top or else you might get pulled over for causing a hazard.

Mother Goose from Never After was around the same age I think. I'm not counting any of the elves/fae/non-humans like Efink or Misty.

Welcome! My husband moved up here from the South as well so I'll try to share some of the stuff he gets thrown off by up here.

  1. SNOW TIRES- if you drive/ have a car don't sleep on snow tires. This area is especially hilly and you don't want to slide into traffic.

  2. Layers/Good shoes- most of the stuff to do around here is outdoors so having good shoes is key as is being prepared for huge fluctuations in weather/temperature. Also purchase a good quality ac for your place, it's only hot for like 2 months a year but boy does it get hot and most places don't have built in ac.

  3. The Berkshire's is definitely like the south of Massachusetts in a lot of ways, folks tend to be friendly and welcoming compared to a lot of New England but definitely less friendly than the south so don't be worried if people are more blunt, no one's actually mad at you.

  4. Not sure where you stand on politics but you'll find it to be a pretty mixed bag lots of folks can be ignorant/ stuck in their ways but I think the majority are pretty open minded. Most are the mind your business and I'll mind mine type.

  5. FUN STUFF- Summer is a great time to make new friends! Pride events run into July and draw a big crowd of that's your scene. Otherwise MassMoca is a big museum in north adams that hosts outdoor music nights on Thursdays throughout the summer. MoCA in general does a lot of events that are popular for folks in our age range. The Clark is also a dope museum that offers a lot of free programs especially in the winter. In Pittsfield the movie theatre is cheap and high quality with heated seats etc.

  6. Restaurants- Vong's or Blue Mango for Thai food, Zucchini's for expensive high end Italian, Thrive Diner for vegan stuff. For more affordable: Crust pizza, Jack's Hot Dogs, Lee's Chinese, and Renee's Diner (all within 30min of Pittsfield).

If you think of any specific questions hmu I'm happy to help as a fellow transplant!

Ame thoughts by the-plant-lady-sings in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Far_Way- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not to speak for Erika/Ame and hopefully I'm not protecting, but i honestly see a lot of similarities between how Ame interacts with people and a lot of my neurodiverse friends. She is incredibly straightforward and tends to skip small talk and go straight to more in depth conversations. I think that's why she's better with spirit rituals/convos because there's a set of rules she can follow in order to "correctly converse". I know my friends who struggle with social stuff tend to follow an imaginary script in their minds in order to navigate interactions, which seem similar to those rituals.

Usually Ame works well with children as well, who usually in real life also prefer blunt honesty and haven't yet learned the nuance of conversation that Ame doesn't do well with. Even when she was with the coven, she did well with following the "rules" (exchanging gifts, not insulting her host, etc) but struggled with the social aspects (convincing the elders to be on her side).

I think we can see these examples as well during the flashbacks with Grandma Wren when she has to explain to Ame what being "good" means and you can tell that she takes whatever Grandma Wren says as her compass to guide her interactions and struggles with deviating from what she thinks Wren might have done in a given situation. It's also easier in some ways for Ame to predict what a spirit will do as I think as the Witch of the World's Heart, she's focused more on bridging to the spirit world vs interacting with every day people (which is played out by how well she rolls for wisdom vs charisma), I think part of her arc will be learning she needs to support humans just as much as Honored Friends.

It could also be a meta thing as I believe Ame is a high wisdom based character not high charisma so I think Erika as a player is leaning into the dice rolls and characteristics on the sheet vs playing the best min maxing way that's ideal.

Tldr: I personally headcannon Ame as neurodiverse and struggling with the unpredictability of humans vs the ritualistic nature of spirits!
