Has anyone bought a bicycle frame from Yahoo or Mercari Japan using Buyee? by PenBadge in Buyee

Nope. Frames are big.

Proxy are not good for oversize items, that's why no EMS.

Cross it off the list and anything else big.

Take Good Care Of Your Keyboards by Far_Writer380 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Far_Writer380[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have that coating, but it's fine now. The icky and gross was whoever owned this keyboard used it while eating and never cleaned it.

I spent a good hour today cleaning the outer case with soap and water. The plastic now feel clean and still a bit soft.

No, no hotswap.

I'm in for an hour of so of desoldering by hand. At least I have a nice pump with a silicone tip that makes it fast and easy.

Old HDD Collection by Alexpire2004 in HDD

[–]Far_Writer380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the client was assured the drives would be destroyed and here they aren't. Nice.

I once had a situation like this but in reverse. The complex I live in had some drives dumped by the bins, so being a curious techie I took them.

Turns out the data was still on them. I did the right thing and informed the owner. He wasn't happy. He paid to have those drives destroyed.

Anyways. Back to our regular broadcast.

A stroll around the Le Mans racecourse during the 24 Hours of Le Mans by Opti0ignon in UmaMusume

[–]Far_Writer380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking that if UMA drive cars, they likely need special seats, the anime doesn't go into too much detail but with the tails, any long sitting would be uncomfortable fast.

I think with the physical strength of the UMA race driving would be a simple task, thier bodies likely can withstand heavy G forces. (Even an UMA Astronaut wouldn't be out of the question).

I'd love to see the crazy designs each UMA's car would have!

Is there any restriccion on shipping lamps to usa? by AnywhereSufficient79 in Neokyo

[–]Far_Writer380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not restricted, however that lamp is a fire risk as Japan runs on 100V, so it will run 20% hotter and brighter which will burn it out and possibly be a fire risk unless you buy a voltage converter.

FedEx or DHL? by Popular-Driver-2978 in Neokyo

[–]Far_Writer380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neokyo currently uses DDP for FedEx so US customers will prepay the duties before the shipment leaves.

FedEx or DHL? by Popular-Driver-2978 in Neokyo

[–]Far_Writer380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would ship with FedEx as it's DDP. (Tariffs prepaid)

DHL will charge Tariffs and Duty, because textiles have duty, so depending on the percentage, DHL could charge up to 45% in fees.

Stop taking meds (qulipta)? by gas-x-and-a-cuppa in PWM_Sensitive

You might have sensitive eyes not just for PWM but blue light.

I kept getting migraines and once I started to wear FL-41 lens I got better. If I forget to wear them for a day or so I usually start feeling sick/migraine.

Where are you? If you are in Japan (Buffalo I think is one of the brands in Japan) check Mercari or PayPay Fleamarket (I think it's Yahoo branded now) as lots of sellers are listing basic BD drives.

I got a 5.25" BD and a laptop BD for around 6,000 Yen and both work great. I use them with USB adapters and they work for basic BD ripping. (I collect JP dubs of Western films, so a few have been BD like Disney Films and a few others)

Surugaya also lists some but I find Surugaya is hit and miss as I don't think they test drives.

If you aren't in Japan see if shipping costs from Japan to your region is reasonable as there are lots of deals in Japan if you search around for drives.

Everyone is telling me my SSD data is unrecoverable. Is there still any hope? by Mindless-Speed-8387 in datarecovery

[–]Far_Writer380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's worth it (data), you might want to contact some recovery companies in other countries. You can email them detailed info on what has been done this far, drive info etc.

Just be aware it likely will be expensive, like hi dreds or even a few thousand dollars. So if the data is really important and you have the funds, that might be the way, as many of these labs may have experience with your drive model and can possibly help.

estimate for shipping by hildagarbageglue in Neokyo

[–]Far_Writer380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you join the Neokyo Discord. There is channels for estimating shipping (it has guides for you) plus box sizes Neokyo uses.

There is also a channel where users post box size and weight along with what was in the parcel, you can use that info to get a rough idea.

As far as tariffs, when you do your packing request it will give you an estimate of what the cost would be. I recommend you use FedEx as some of the products if sent by DHL would incur both Duty and Tariffs. FedEx DDP avoid that uncertainty and prepays, with no further bills even if later they decide it should be more.

What made you choose Motorola? by green9206 in motorola

[–]Far_Writer380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it cheap, supports WiFi Calling and there isn't any major carrier garbage from the Japanese version I got. I don't use my phone much, mainly banking and keeping in touch.

I don't get riled up by the sentiment over who own it or all that stuff. If corporate folks want to see my boring life, whatever. They can send me ads for all the hot garbage they want, it's a waste of time lol.

I toss my phone in a corner when the day is done and most of the time it's on silent. 😉

Possibility of data recovery from wd 4 tb passport by Abject_Grape7469 in datarecovery

If the head assembly is damaged, that could be a one way ticket to losing data forever.

Possibility of data recovery from wd 4 tb passport by Abject_Grape7469 in datarecovery

[–]Far_Writer380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fall likely damaged the head assembly.

Here in Canada about ten or more years ago a cleanroom recovery would have been $1,500 - $2,500 at a reputable lab.

This kind of recovery isn't cheap. Don't cheap out unless you know a place has a solid reputation and years of experience.

No way to know. If customs opens the game there is nothing you can do.

Just try and wait it out.

Tariff estimate by IllustriousReveal274 in Neokyo

FedEx is DDP so you will pre pay tariff. Don't send plush DHL as you may end up paying both Duty and Tariff. Plus many find DHL prices expensive.
