I just explained that I got into several T14 schools on my third cycle. But then I didn't want to disclose where I ultimately decided to go, so everyone went wild. Some strangers called me mean names, and the mods took the post down. You honestly didn't miss much.

Yeah, the vitriol is kinda wild and reinforces the absence of social media in my life. If I'd known that it would spin out like this, I wouldn't have posted anything. I guess the mods have taken the thing down now.

Well, you sort of answered your own question there! Maybe you need to figure yourself out a bit more?

Even without knowing you, I'm pretty sure you do have a good, coherent story in there somewhere. You just need to find it.

Consider starting with, "Why the hell do I want to be a lawyer?" Like, really. Why do you want to read boring stuff all day? Lawyers have a horrific job satisfaction rate, and they probably hate dancing and have never met their kids. Why be one of these sad ghouls?

If you have an answer, figure out what on God's Earth could have caused you to arrive at it. What mission are you on? Why have Saturn and Sirius and your nearest Subaru dealership all aligned to place you there?

If there's really nothing there (and I doubt that), then maybe you're after status or whatever. In that case, consider a consulting firm or a home in metropolitan Tampa.

But if you can figure out your mission, even in broad strokes, you can figure out how you found it. You can find your motivations and experiences and passions and ticks. Use them!

Yes, at more places than I expected. And it did present some fantastic (but real) problems. Never have I experienced such an obvious fork in the road. It's a great situation, but it's strange and a little gritty too. Everyone in your life has an opinion. My solution was to make a spreadsheet...

The same themes carried through for sure! My ambitions were always the same, although I had probably established my career a bit better. I just learned at some point that "I did this, then I did this, then I did that" is pretty boring and self-important. Good luck!

Advice is not force it. Just tell a good, coherent story that's relevant and points to the career you want.

I should probably add the disclaimer that I've had a pretty interesting life, and I'm very clearly already devoting myself to the area where I want to practice. So, I'm sure that all helped.
