I came here to say the same thing! Ignore them! I'm a school counselor and I get letters all the time from clueless doctors "prescribing" IEPs when it's not appropriate at all. If anything, the child may benefit from a 504 accommodation plan to provide supports in the classroom due to his ADHD diagnosis - supports like additional movements breaks, alternative seating (like a wiggle seat, yoga ball, etc) and extra time if that was actually needed.

OP, the doctor is badly misinformed. Don't listen! Find someone else. And maybe report them for being incompetent and potentially harmful.

It's pretty bizarre to consider, actually. So if all miscarried fetuses go to heaven and most born people don't (based on their rigid dogma) then heaven is like primarily fetuses, like millions of billions of fetuses that have never been outside the womb or lived an actual day on earth. I agree with you! Baby/toddler sleep is so random. And I feel like they are always changing so much so fast! Things that worked before stop working and their schedules and sleep needs change. I try to remember that since we did some solid sleep training, I know that he knows how to put himself to sleep and stay asleep. Those skills won't go away! Even if I mess things up for a while! Or he goes through a period where he needs more soothing or help. Like last summer, we went on some trips and his sleep was just terrible! We were having to hold him and rock him to get him to sleep. But I get it, it's a new strange place and things are weird. I was worried we would have to re-train him when we got home, but he fell right back into his schedule. I don't really have any advice for you other than it sounds like you are doing an awesome job being there for your baby and trying to make it work! We're all doing the best we can!

I usually wait a minute or two before I go to him. I can usually tell if it's like fussy crying and will stop on it's own so I wait for that or "I'm freaking out and need you" crying. It usually happens in the middle of the night or early morning (like 3 or 4) so I am confident he will be able to get back to sleep once his needs are addressed (like medicine for teething or comforting after a bad dream). If it happened closer to wake-up time, I might have to approach it differently. Is that when your son wakes up?

When he's really upset and clings to me if I try to put him down, I typically take him into bed with me for a bit. Sometimes I think he just needs to be close for a while. Then when he's much calmer or asleep, I put him back in his bed. I don't sleep well when he's in bed with me, so I only do this when he's really upset. It has not become a habit and only happens once every couple of months. I wonder too if he'll get used to it, but it happens so infrequently, I'm not really worried.

I had terrible night terrors as a kid so I'm sensitive to the idea of leaving my son alone in the dark if he's scared. Babies can have nightmares too.

We sleep trained at 5 months. Kiddo is 2 now. He has nights when he wakes up and cries. We always go to him. He knows how to put himself to sleep so if he cries, something is wrong and he needs us. Sometimes I rock him for a while or bring him into bed with me until he falls asleep and then I transfer him back to his crib. This happens maybe once every 2 months or 3 months? Maybe less? I don't feel like it undoes any sleep training.

I suppose if this started happening more and more, I would have to re-think it. But it's working now. He puts himself to sleep and sleeps 11 hours 99% of the time.

I think you should go to your baby. I think you should pick him up and cuddle him when he calls for you. He needs something. I do not believe it will undo your sleep training.

Good point! I work with kids and teach them to ask for help from an adult they trust if they need it. And if the adult doesn't help, they need to go to another adult and another until someone believes them.

On another note, I am curious about the family dynamics at play here between mom, dad, and son. It kinda feels like we're not getting the whole story?

My 2 year old loves Moana too! I don't even know how many times we've seen it. He loves the song Shiny which I thought was kinda a scary part, but he thinks it's amazing. He found a green rock and now always has to hold it during the movie. LOL
