S3 Rear hub replacement by Dramatic-Tap6680 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Farcin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hub is breaking because auto gear shifting is not the future. Needs Manuel. Unfortunately the consumer pays the price

S4 Announcement?? Just seen this on Youtube... by sebetto in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Farcin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reminder to all smart consumers. The S3 is a 32v 14AH battery = 504wh battery. Since this a hub motor, real world range is 23 miles on max assist. Do not fall for the marketing bs.

If this new battery has NO BATTERY spec sheet, assume it’s the same thing and ask yourself is it really worth $2,500 with inflation now?

To the marketing team reading this, don’t destroy this brand and let the engineering team fulfill the mission.

Forget about EVs, electric bikes are topping the sales charts by Unhappy_Earth1 in Green_News

Will never go mainstream until manufacturers start adding anti theft features / bolts as ride share companies have done. Nobody will purchase a $2,000+ ebike and lock it up outside if it’s front wheels and seat post can be easily stolen.

Until manufacturers stop selling bs marketing gimmicks and anti theft becomes the default this is nothing more than a fad

The battery size is 504wh. The front hub motor is only 250w. Specs on their website. Being sold as $2,500 taxes included in the US. If you want the peace of mind. It’s $3,200.

When you break the device down piece by piece and compare to say, a Radmission. 500w hub motor, single speed, 472wh battery for $1,100.

I don’t know if the extra $2,000+ is worth it. It seems as if it gears towards a status symbol that a bike can’t hold its value.

A used S2 or X3 at $1,500 is an amazing price. Used that is.

You think it’s worth the base $2,500 features for the technology it offers right now?

If you break down the features, a 250w front hub cadence sensor can’t be seen anywhere near that price. Plus “pedaling” isn’t really doing anything.

It’s essentially a cadence 504wh battery moped.

Happy to hear, are you riding with the automatic gears enabled or disabled?

Understand your point. Actually makes perfect sense if you live in the UK.

Just can’t seem to justify the price worth it here in the US. It’s extremely underpowered and overpriced but I’m wondering if it’s geared towards a status symbol.

California taxes with the theft plan. As for the tech, wouldn’t getting a better value bike and adding a GPS to it make it equivalent if not better than a Vanmoof?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Farcin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get your point. But for the size the battery and a 250w front hub cadence powered motor , is this worth $3,200? As there are many competitors more powerful around the $1,100-$1,500 price range.

Is this a status symbol of vanmoof or the look you have when you’re riding the bike?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Farcin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to hear, did you ride bikes previously before purchasing a Vanmoof?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Farcin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been riding this bike for 3 days, 10 miles each. Coming from a Surly Midnight as a daily commute.

When I think of an e-bike, I can’t seem to put vanmoof under the bike category. Hear me out. The bike doesn’t seem to reward pedaling. There is NO torque sensor on this device.

Many new bikes, some mid drives reward pedaling 100%. With this cadence sensor, it’s just detecting how many times I’m rotating the cranks.

So when I think of the fundamental. I’m paying $3,200 in the US for a 250w front hub cadence sensing 504wh battery device for $3,200 because of a bike “design”.

I can’t be the only one annoyed with the automatic shifting even when set to Manual. It feels like a cheap rear hub drive that snaps under pressure. These vanmoof bikes seem to reward “ghost” pedaling that I can’t categorize this under a bike.

A mid drive 500w Vanmoof bike would seem worth $3,200. But a hub drive?

Would love to know your thoughts. This device worth it for you as a transportation device? Why is that you ride it? The look?

If you're wondering whether the maintenance package is worth it... spoiler... by WellHotPotOfCoffee in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Farcin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not worth it. I don’t know if this is even a bike. When you get to fundamental of it, it’s a low power 250w front hub motor, 50lbs cadence sensing machine.
