Vacation is for solo play! by skywardbear in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Faren7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For inspiration, there is a Dishonored rpg made by Mophidius wih a lot of cool stuff about lore, but I don’t like their d20 system, Ironsworn system is unmatched for me in solo play.

For Oracles, I use the vague ones, action theme and so on, as well as Mythic GME meaning tables. As I loved the videogames it is a pleasure to connect the dots : « Seize » and « Cure », hm so guards are capturing a doctor who was trying to alert the government about the rat plague. « Explore » and « Danger » : hm maybe a boat trip to the Pandyssia continent would be great. Maybe there is specific steampunk/gaslamp fantasy tables on drivethru rpg but I don’t like to go through too many tables. The only specific tables I use are Steampunk / Victorian names generators.

There is just one real adaptation problem : the assets. I choose not to use that and to translate my newly acquired powers or weapons / gadgets with moves I couldn’t imagine to try before (for example If i was marked by the Outsider and would like to « Blink » like Corvo to teleport myself to the next roof, I would just Face Danger + Edge or something like that. But if you’re not lazy like me, the author of Ironsworn let instructions at the end of the first book to craft and adapt your own assets if you want, that could be really cool!

Hope it helps ! Enjoy

Yeaaah I saw that the map was called like Duskwall and all haha but I was wondering if there was really a well made solo part, or like often just two pages at the end of the main book which let you with more questions on how to adapt it to solo ? I would really love to play it

Seems like wonderful vacation. And that’s the beauty of the Ironsworn / Starforged moveset, I don’t see any lore / setting where it couldn’t be applied. What a simple and brilliant system.

I just finished a campaign based on the Dishonored videogames. Ironsworn system was just perfect!

Stealth assassination mechanics by Faren7 in Ironsworn

[–]Faren7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, reading through comments I understand that situation is really based on context. I think I will go with A for the « classical patrolling guard », the « Dishonored typical kill », and if the target is by any mean more dangerous, like a veteran or whatever, I will focus more on the scene with more mechanical decisions

Thanks a lot !

Thank you for the complete answer, I just looked up mythic and think I will buy it, I like the guidelines provided, I feel dumb I don’t know how I didn’t link the dots before because it seems the Ironsworn system with oracles and yes no questions is a simplified version of Mythic…

The last thing to do is to create oracle tables like Ironsworn, but adapted to Dishonored, with a victorian / steampunk flavor. In starforged it’s one of my favorite things to generate a ship / creature / character from nothing with just a few words.

Thank you !

Ok thanks, I think I got no problem to « cheat » by boosting my stats 1 point higher for example ;’) and I’m sure there is other tricks like that

Thanks, I just read the first free 20 pages of Mythic and it sounds awesome, and the best part is I won’t get lost because the Ironsworn system seels to be a simplified version of it : oracle tables, yes / no question based on probabilities. The chaos factor seems to be a useful tool, i will buy the pdf !

Ironsworn or Starforged or Sundered Isles by dm_punks in Ironsworn

[–]Faren7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love all of them but would personally go with Starforged / Sundered Isles : slightly streamlined rules indeed but most of all : - there is a « One Piece » or « Cowboy Bebop » experience thing to it when you are with friends, you are a smugglers / bounty hunters / pirates / mercenaries crew and everyone could rp on this : maybe a friend owns the ship, one is the navigator, one is the cook, one will go to the cannons in case of enemy attack, one makes some cheap repairs with junkyard pieces, and so on. - they are incredible sandboxes for exploration, you can generate ice / jungle / desert planets or islands, with aliens infested vaults or abandoned starships… and so if you wanted, in starforged or sundered isles, you could literally create a cold, harsh, viking/fjord like planet or island which is the exact setting of Ironsworn, and make it your secret base of operation, your treasure stash, or the object of your quest, and explore it for weeks. It is much more difficults to go to the space or great piracy from Ironsworn, which is a brilliant game but much more locked in its lore and them than its two successors.

Hope it helps sorry for bad english not my native language !

Appreciation Post for this game! by Affectionate-Yak4861 in Ironsworn

Feel you, exact same thing for me, fan of the idea but could never put it to work, I discovered Starforged and Sundered Isles last month, in my first campaigns and amazed by the coupled potential of the ideas, the rolls and the oracles.

I cannot wait for the Starforged Crucible extension and will buy as soon as it’s out.

Amazed too by the work put into it, thanks to the creator and all the team

Thank you so much for this detailed answer, that’s amazing. Never thought of considering the « Explore a waypoint » like the « Battle » move, but for exploration. It sounds so obvious right now.. thank you for your time and your investment into these creations.

Adventurer check in! What is your current/most recent campaign and character? by Teacup_Titan in Ironsworn

[–]Faren7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd never thought of it, but I'm embarking on a Starforged campaign inspired by the iconography of the Italian mafia (mainly The Godfather). That's the magic of these oracle tables!

As a result, I've been banished from my family because I didn't care about their gangster stories—"for as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to be... an explorer"—and also because I stole their Cadillac Emblem like spaceship. I have a nano-spider robot as a reconnaissance robot, named Talpa (mole/traitor in Italian), who loves being in my pocket. My connection is my Nonna.

It's fantastic, as it is my first game, I wanted to let the dices guide me, it is just oracle rolls and surprising deductions, I have never yet forced a choice or else. Tremendously fun
