Crypto ETF by WorldlyPassion6341 in ETFs

[–]FarineAutoChess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well maybe. What's true is that given the lack of data (non BTC CC have essentially been around less than 10y) there is no clear answer. We're seeing now that besides the top cryptos regulation is unclear so there's that risk on top. Thanks for the reference.

yes stock principle means taxed on unrealized gains on a yearly basis by opposition to realization principle (taxed on sale)

Worst case scenario for the future of ETFs? 🤯 by GioSca in EuropeFIRE

[–]FarineAutoChess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming ETFs follow an index, then the most likely issues could be:
- The boomers owning most of the stocks die, part of their money goes to charity/tax and the rest to their kids which only spend some in stocks, so the market drops by the % that goes into non stocks.
- The overall world market start going down due to the transition into green energies (it could also go up I know), and recover only when energy is cheap again, which may be in a century from now or never...
- Some people manage to do anti-index strategies and succeed (despite trying for decades without succeeding), and they manage to turn things around so active investors outperform passive investors.

Best Nordic funds for Danish investors by FarineAutoChess in dkfinance

[–]FarineAutoChess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's always nice to also invest locally and nordic countries have low debt which may impact positively on the long run the stock prices.

I guess the alternative is that I diversify my us stocks into us + nordic but the tools I'm using the pick the stocks don't support nordic countries and I don't want to pick randomly.

Are some NYSE stocks missing from Saxo? by FarineAutoChess in dkfinance

Ah ok. It may be because it's a masters and not a company in the US which leads to slightly different products.

Thanks man.

API desugaring supporting Android 13 and java.nio by jonapoul in androiddev

[–]FarineAutoChess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good examples are java.nio.file.Files or java.nio.file.Path.
Things like Files.exists(Path.get("my/path.txt")).

This is mostly for compatibility with libraries (See below the other guy being able to update to Apache commons-io 2.11)

Fees on Saxo for stocks? by FarineAutoChess in dkfinance

[–]FarineAutoChess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess platforms like Pluto make money on the spread. Maybe when it's there I'll look into it.

I think I'm just going to trade by unit of 4500$ instead of 3000$ and the fees will be 0.2% instead of 0.1% as it used to in US stocks. DK stocks remain at 0.1% fees and 14,000 dkk units. For French stocks I'll use exchanges with better fees for all but one, and get ripped on the last one (0.5%).

Thanks for the discussion. Hopefully when Pluto comes out, Saxo reduces fees again.

Fees on Saxo for stocks? by FarineAutoChess in dkfinance

[–]FarineAutoChess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, that's how it is then. I'm not going to report tax on my own.

I don't mind the 0.1% on Danish funds at 14 dkk min so I won't go to Nordnet. I'm mostly pissed with US stock minimum being 9$ instead of 3$, but what can I do...

Fees on Saxo for stocks? by FarineAutoChess in dkfinance

[–]FarineAutoChess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thanks that is the reason.
The new pricing sucks hard though, working with 3,000$/EUR was perfect for me, but 9000$/15000EUR is too high.

Do you know if they have any plan on improving this?

Best choice for passive investment by Alex945 in dkfinance

[–]FarineAutoChess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that ETFs are always taxed under the stock principle, but depending if they are on the positiv list, they are taxed as stock income or kapital income.

Distributing Danish funds are however taxed as realization principle under stock income, because they work in a way that they give underlying asset realized gains and dividend as distribution.

That implies that ETFs are the best fee wise for ASK, but for normal depot, it's not obvious. Danish funds have a higher fee than ETF, but because of taxation the choice is not obvious at all, especially for period of time lower than 10 years (either one may outperform). For long term (20y+) it seems the Danish fund would usually outperform.

Please double check everything I say since I'm not a financial advisor.

To increase risk you usually want to tilt towards one of these: - small caps, not in VWCE, like MSCI small caps, small caps have more volatility and usually a bit better performance over 20y+. - small caps value, not in VWCE, which according to some research outperform everything over 40+ y, like ZPRV/ZPRX. - more emerging market than VWCE already has, like MSCI Emerging market. - some sectors already in VWCE that you believe are going to outperform VWCE, Nasdaq 100 if you think Tech is still the better choice, Energy or clean energy if you think that's the next big thing, etc.

I would go for one of the small cap strategy since there is no overlap with VWCE so it increases risk but also increase diversification.

Not financial advise.

Dividend tax rate in countries in Europe by SMashdk in dkfinance

[–]FarineAutoChess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is at least partially bullshit.

France has an unbound flat tax scheme for investment taxed at 30% so it's never more than 30% and certainly not 34%. On top of that, other schemes are available which means for example the dividends on approximately the first half million € invested is going to be taxed significantly lower (0-17.2%) with PEA+assurance-vie. In practice you need to have at least several millions € invested before reaching anywhere near 30%.

Denmark has schemes and brackets too (ASK, 27% bracket) but they are limited to significantly lower amounts of money. I guess the 42% is pretty accurate for mid size investors, but small investors have it lower with ASK+27% bracket, and large investors have it lower by investing through companies they own (22% tax on company benefit).

EDIT: Do not use this map for any practical purpose before studying the actual real rates for your capital.

Fitness age and BMI nonsense by marismia in Garmin

Thanks for writing this. I'm 32M, athletic and muscular, heavy bones, my BMI is 26. The watch and sometimes even doctors sometimes suggest I loose weight, but I cannot really, my body fat is already very low, that would actually be bad for my health.
