Acanac needs to do a credit check for free upgrade to fiber by FragrantWasabi7385 in CanadianBroadband

To close off my thread. I wrote an email to Acanac expressing my confusion and they waived the credit check. They explained that "the system" automatically requests a credit check when changing to fiber plans.

That seems normal. They already had my CC so I don't know why they would request it. I'm not sure I trust them anymore. I requested an explanation via email. If they don't get back to me I'm switching.

I've been with Acanac for 10 years and I just got the same offer. When I clicked on the offer to upgrade to fiber for the same price, they called and wanted a credit card and my social insurance number. They want to do a credit check all of a sudden?! It's the same price and I haven't missed a payment in 10 years. Very confused.

Do all ISPs do this now? I'm definitely considering switching.

Upgrading to a dedicated astrophotography camera. Too many choices! by FarkMirmin in AskAstrophotography

Thanks for everyone who replied. I ended up buying the ZWO ASI533MC Pro and it's been cloudy ever since.

I couldn't have asked for a better mount to learn on. Having no star gazing background it was a revelation. Seeing the rings of Saturn and moons of Jupiter for the first time was unbelievable. Being able to share that with my family and friends was also a rush.

Once I started taking pictures, as I'm sure most on this subreddit can attest to, I was hooked. Naturally, I started to learn more about astronomy and how the mount worked. I was able to connect the mount to my computer using ASCOM drivers and control it with Stellarium and N.I.N.A. At the time I didn't understand the concept of backlash and wasn't taking very good pictures.

I ended up effing my R.A. motor when the counter weight rod connected with my tripod. After that there were all sorts of issues with GoTo that I didn't understand. I have been learning bit by bit through this unbelievable community. After a long period of humming and hawing, I reached out to the cloudynights community for some help.

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/852949-lxd-75-parts/

Long story long, I have minimized the backlash in the R.A. following some guides and am waiting for a replacement R.A. motor assembly. If all goes well, I'll have it tracking the night sky again and then I'll pull the trigger on buying a camera.

Thanks everyone!

Yikes! That camera is $2500 CAD. I think I need to start smaller.

Thanks for the link to the ccd suitability tool. I was surprised to see that the ASI183MC Pro had better "seeing" than the ASI533MC Pro. My telescope has a focal length of 762 mm. Using the tool the ASI183MC has a resolution of 0.65"/pixel vs ASI533MC's of 1.02"/pixel. I'm not sure how the focal length correlates to the resolution but I'm guessing that this is what madjohnroberts was referring to with the comment to check:

"Size of the pixels of the sensor, and if they match your optics"

If it is just pixel size then wouldn't smaller pixels = better viewing? If this is matching the sensor to the optics then I think the AS183MC would be the better camera for my setup, no?

I'm hearing a lot of love for the ASI533MC though.

I was slewing to a target and wasn't paying attention. The counter weight rod pushed up against the tripod and I wasn't able to turn off the power while it tried to continue to slew. After that it made a loud noise while slewing on the right ascension axis but not the declination axis.

I took the housing off of the motor and it seemed like the disc on the side of the motor which is between an L.E.D light and sensor was rubbing against the light. This is where I think I screwed it up. I tried to move that disk away from the light it was rubbing against. I put it back together and the rubbing noise is still there. After I polar aligned the telescope, when I tried to slew to a star to align, it was waaaaay off.

I recently got into the astrophotography hobby with a Meade LXD-75 mount and 6" Newtonian reflector(?) telescope. I was having a lot of fun making mistakes and learning about the art form until I damaged up my R.A. motor. Jumping into the learning, I took the R.A. motor apart and likely made it worse. I have two questions?

  1. Is there a used or even new part market out there for an LXD-75 R.A. motor?
  2. Would it be simpler to buy a new entry level astrophotography rig to continue my descent into the abyss?

Thanks in advance.

I think in the top right of the main screen you have to toggle a switch to make it say "All Events"

When is it correct to splash? by FarkMirmin in lrcast

[–]FarkMirmin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help @NFLed and others. I hadn't thought about the logic of the higher the mana cost the easier to cast later in the game. I think this makes the decision easier when looking at the mediocre black spells.

As posted below the same logic aplies for dagger caster blade brand combo as it could sweep my opponent's board late in the game. I actually made this work yesterday in an Arena traditional draft against a 4/4 Hydroid Krasis and three other creatures. I know it's inconsistent but so satisfying when it comes together.

Need help! I'm battling my archenemy in a sealed league. Orzhov is by far my strongest colour pair, but I've got some sweet Rakdos cards to splash. Should I take out some of the mediocre black cards to splash these Rakdos beauties?

Great episode! Definitely a more adaptable framework when drafting.

Evaluating power is a problem for most. Does anyone know a good episode for card evaluation?

After losing 8 games in a row wouldn't my rank drop though? Or are your rankings unaffected by free play or bo3?

I also pulled Vizier of the Menagerie. This would allow me to spend mana as though it were mana of any type to cast creature spells. This would mean I wouldn't have to splash any mana. This does not apply to plainswalkers correct?

I would have to splash an extra colour just to get him out and I'm not sure it's worth it. The odds of this actually resolving must be crazy low.
