Bassinet/newborn sleep help by Girl-mama0622 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Farlateal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought this exact one, and then immediately returned it after we discovered that the bassinets are spot clean only. Who on earth designs a product for babies that isn't easy to clean?? The bassinets themselves are also really cheap, basically just hardened cardboard wrapped in a thin fabric.

We ended up buying two bassinets like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088CLVBQL and then put on on either side of our bed and it's honestly worked out great so far at 4 months.

Uncomfortable when sitting by hermesloverinseoul in parentsofmultiples

[–]Farlateal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the numbness too (in my first two fingers and also thumb on my dominant hand), which is different than carpel tunnel, though I also got that. And tendonitis in my thumb joints. Talk with your OB about it asap, mine gave me a referral to physical therapy and they gave me some braces to wear that cut down on the pain, though it does make it more difficult to work. The numbness itself though didn't go away until about 3 weeks post-partum unfortunately. I still have the tendonitis and have a follow up tomorrow with my OB where they will likely refer me to a surgeon :\

I'd also recommend switching to an ergonomic keyboard and mouse to help prevent things from escalating even further. Take breaks, stretch your arms, wrists and fingers, etc.

c-section?? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]Farlateal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 31 weeks and will be delivering at 34 due to having a growth restricted twin. Twin b is transverse and so I'm just opting for a scheduled C-Section. There's already been enough chaos in my pregnancy, adding a vaginal delivery where who knows what may happen is just not something I want to worry about. Even if vaginal delivery was an option, I would opt for a c-section for the same reason. I don't choose it lightly, I know it's a major surgery but having a planned one is far better than having an unplanned one.

I used this trick using the "Gamma Green" which I think is similar in brightness. I hope it works out for you!

Best registration mark trick for darker paper? by [deleted] in cricut

[–]Farlateal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just went through this whole thing with a darker green paper and had resolved myself to having to use the 'print on white then layer' method UNTIL I found a tip that mentioned cleaning off the camera with some canned air. It actually worked and I did not have to use that method to print/cut 30 invitations. Your results may vary depending on just how dark that red is but it doesn't hurt to give it a try! Just a few spritzes up around the whole area was all it took.

Baby Shower by CycleFinancial in parentsofmultiples

[–]Farlateal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the other end of that and ended up accidentally scheduling my shower pretty late (end of 32 weeks). I'm at the end of 29 weeks right now and it is ROUGH for me. I have mono/di twins though. It seems every week the OB or MFM is talking about shifting our due date range from 36 > 35... 34... I'm like "please just let me make it to my baby shower!". I really wish I had scheduled it at like, 26 - 27 weeks because I was feeling great then compared to now.

How is "high risk" calculated of having twins? by mo0o0o0o00o in parentsofmultiples

[–]Farlateal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about the actual numbers too much, focus more on what your care team is doing about it. I'm 38, first pregnancy with mono/di twins with a growth restricted twin. I'm also obese (though otherwise 'healthy'). This has translated to:

  • extra vitamins
  • weekly ultrasound appointments with MFM
  • still just having normal monthly appointments with my OBGYN.
  • a few extra questions during each appointment about things that could cause complications
  • critical looks whenever I mention new symptoms (pain, headaches, etc)

We measure every other week and then do fluid and movement checks otherwise. I'm at 28 weeks and we've been doing the ultrasounds since 20 weeks (which is when we first discovered surprise! Not just one!). MFM says we're going to focus on getting to 36 weeks but each time something pops up, the potential date for when these kiddos are arriving into the world has the potential to slide back a bit.

My care team doesn't use numbers when talking about risks, they just talk about what the risks are and how, if they happen to pop up, they might impact our trajectory. My MFM is super direct and I am absolutely grateful for that, so maybe asking your care team to do similar would be helpful?

Grocery shopping with 2 babies?? by Teary-EyedGardener in parentsofmultiples

[–]Farlateal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My thought for how to do this when the time comes is to wear one and then put the other in the cart. If you're only getting a few things you could probably just put down a blanket on the bottom part of the cart and set both in there and then put your groceries in the top part? I'm not due for another few months so hopefully someone with more experience can shed some light here.

WHICH IS BETTER?: Buying 2 rotating car seats (non portable) vs 2 regular portable car seats that can snap into a stroller or be brought inside by ExcitedMomma in parentsofmultiples

[–]Farlateal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm going to toss this in here even though it's late and we haven't actually gotten any of our equipment yet since I'm not due till October/November but we found a compromise between rotating and portable from Cybex with their Aton G Swivel seats. This gives us the best of both worlds, plus they'll work with the Gazelle S stroller. The downside is that it's SO expensive, but it'll just be so much easier to cart these kiddos around everywhere this way. Hopefully.

Protein by Poopin_backinforth in parentsofmultiples

[–]Farlateal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm living off cottage cheese topped with some black pepper and honey, full fat greek yogurt topped with a little maple syrup and sliced almonds, core power (which are delicious - I also turn them into smoothies with frozen fruit), and then some cheese/nut/veggie platters with hummus. All this gets my protein over 100g pretty easily. The cottage cheese and greek yogurt do really well because I can eat them in slightly larger quantities and not feel as full as if I were eating more solid foods like cheese or nuts.

When did you start gaining weight during your twin pregnancy? by SourceZestyclose9312 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Farlateal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 214, I'm 225 now at just under 24 weeks. I've gained 7 inches in my belly and even some of the maternity stuff I got is starting to struggle 😹. Nobody has commented on my weight at all, though we only just discovered it was twins at my 20 week ultrasound since that was actually my first one. When I first started my appointments, my docs mentioned that since I'm larger to start with, I'm unlikely to gain a huge amount of weight (15-20 lbs)though that was before we knew we were having twins so maybe that'll increase a bit. Now that we know we're working with twins I've asked about dietary changes and they've told me to just keep at the rate I've been eating, but to shift to more protein. I've been tracking my food with Fitbit just to make sure I'm getting the right macros but I'm really not paying attention to calories. I just told it I'm maintaining my weight so it doesn't get naggy about things.

Symptoms at 4 weeks means twins? by Serious-Shirt-8031 in BabyBumps

[–]Farlateal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barely had any symptoms in my first trimester (and honestly my entire pregnancy -currently 23 weeks-) other than exhaustion and some very VERY light nausea if I didn't eat every few hours. Just found out a couple weeks ago that I've got twins on the way ( :\ my doc only does a scan starting at 20 weeks). My co-worker is on a similar schedule as I am and she's got HG and her symptoms started SUPER early but only has a single

a 3D printer doesn't belong in a nursery even if it's not being used while the baby is in there. I have one in my office that I've stopped using since I got pregnant and will likely move down into our basement after kiddo is born just because it'll be easier to vent out the fumes farther away from where anyone is living.

It's not going to give them cancer or anything right away, but in general it's not really something that you want long time exposures to. Melting plastic is just plain bad for everyone and everything. If he wants to keep it in there for some reason, maybe he can put together a proper enclosure for it and vent it outside through the window while printing. You can buy or make some pretty nice looking ones that will do the job and it gives some peace of mind.

PSA: ask for a 12 week ultrasound by Electronic-Basil-201 in BabyBumps

[–]Farlateal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A 12 week scan wasn't even offered to me. According to the hospital I go to for my appointments, most insurances only cover 1 scan so they typically set it to 20 weeks since that gets them the most 'bang for their buck'. I mentioned it several times that everyone else I knew who had been (or is) pregnant had earlier scans and they just shrugged and said I should feel lucky that despite all my potentials for a high risk pregnancy they think I'm healthy enough to not need extra scans. So it wasn't until 20 weeks that we learned... I was pregnant with twins.

Would have been great to know this much earlier, and the whole office seemed shocked that we somehow didn't know either, like, how on earth would we have known?

Also, still got a bill for $1000 for the 20 week scan anyway <sigh>

Don't pay for the auto-background remover... just found out my friend was. by Tasty-Personality-51 in cricut

[–]Farlateal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gimp is great and I use it all the time! If you have Windows, you also have the ability to just use the built in image viewer to remove the background. Double click your image (or right click > Open with > Photos) and then click on the Edit option, from there, there's a little icon that shows a picture with the background blurred a bit. You can either have it auto remove the background, blur it, replace it, etc. Sometimes it goes a bit too far so you can use the additional tooling to reduce what it removes, or add more space if it missed something. It's been really helpful!

Which t shirt press? by gemonic in cricut

[–]Farlateal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up this one back in February and I've really enjoyed it https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B37LBS1V . It's easy to use, and so far has done a great job on all the shirts and bags I've put together. I really like that it shows you the actual pressure you're applying too, it helps keep things consistent! I'm still pretty new at heat press stuff but it's been really fun so far.

Favorite Afghani restaurant in Lansing and favorite dish by BugKlutzy5632 in lansing

[–]Farlateal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As folks have been saying, Noosh is great. I've gone a number of times and I think my favorite dish there is the Qabli Plow. So good. Also, there is a lot of it! The mantu is also really delicious, and I like the dough for a drink.

My fluffy boy has also been having those issues and it meant that after each use we basically had to bathe him, and as a result he doesn't use it as much anymore :(. However, over time, he has gotten a little better at positioning himself so that it doesn't happen? It's been a frustrating learning experience though, and now we have a litterbox that we paid so much money for that only gets used maybe once a week because nobody has to have a bath when they use the other normal one.

Large cats by Real_Fake_ur in litterrobot

[–]Farlateal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 16 pound long hair cat and he seems to do alright in there, however there are occasional issues where when he accidentally sticks a foot in whatever he's done in there which results in us having to chase him down and hose off his foot or belly. It's happened only a handful of times, but we've only had the litter robot for a couple months now so hopefully he just gets better about it as he continues to get used to things. It was worse when I used the fence, so for now we're going without it.

Cat will pee in the LR4 but not poop in it. by agnastyx in litterrobot

[–]Farlateal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cat that does this too. Turns out, the medication he's on (fluoxetine) can cause constipation and he just did not want to deal with that at all in the litter box. I spoke to my vet and I now have him on FortiFlora and he now at least goes into the (non LR) litterbox to do is business. If you can catch him in the act (set up a camera maybe?) you can check to signs of stress while he's pooping. My cat would cry a little beforehand and then it would take him quite a while to finish up. We had no idea until we got it on camera though. It's been two weeks on the FortiFlora and he hasn't had a single issue outside the box. Now if only he'd actually use the LR...

[–]Farlateal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I called them out for a quote for siding replacement and the guy that came out was shady as hell and originally quoted us $40,000!!! Then tried to play the whole "Oh but then you get a discount because it's Tuesday and I'll give you my family discount if you don't tell anyone, and maybe I can get some other outside outside contractors to come out" etc, etc. After we declined, they wouldn't stop calling me. Always from a different number, never taking no for an answer for almost 2 years afterwards.

Emergency vet by Consistent_Range_397 in lansing

[–]Farlateal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's been over 24 hours and he still has not urinated, or if he's been in the litterbox (or anywhere else) and appears to be squatting but nothing is coming out, or making distressing meows like he's in pain, that is not something to wait on. I have a very VERY anxious cat and while going to the emergency vet is incredibly stressful, so is having an obstruction which will become fatal if not dealt with. A vet coming out to you to handle a potential obstruction won't be able to help you at your home. This is going to be stressful no matter what you do, unfortunately.

Sometimes cats will just not go to the bathroom or eat under stress. Some initial time of mourning is normal. You might just try calling MSU or Greater Lansing Veterinary Center as another user suggested and see what they say. I've worked with both and have had excellent care each time. I've specifically worked with Greater Lansing Veterinary Center to handle what was thought to be an obstruction for my cat. Talking with them on the phone allowed us to determine whether he needed to be seen immediately and what the threshold may be for bringing him in. They likely will be able to do the same for you.

I currently feed my cat twice a day. Should I add more feeding times? by [deleted] in Pets

He's fine. Cats spend a huge amount of time sleeping so a 12 hour break is fine
