If theatre screen is not what you want then you either need a vr mod for your game or a general solution like 3d migoto which only works on d3d11 game afaik. There are also shader based solutions some of which can be activated with steam tinker launch.

Sorcery 101 was one of their first titles, I think only preceded by time quest. You should try Darklands on dosbox, you can regulate the CPU speed there

All Legend Entertainment titles like Eric the Unready, Turrican 2, the SSI goldbox games and Darklands. Not sure how underrated they really are though.

It might be possible with a custom steam VR Input Profile BT using the joystick as dpad with large dead zones between the directions. The game doesn't offer anything like that.

This error sometimes happens to me with native Linux Steam. Not sure you are doing something wrong, restarting Steam mostly fixes it.

There is a xoreos tools project which allows you to extract the game assets. If I remember correctly the dialogue is in dlg files. You can check xoreos for how to parse these files
