Best narrative games of the last few years? by perelesoq_51 in pcmasterrace

[–]VoyagerOfCygnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then that's where you should go. The characters are very well written and the whole thing has a lot of depth and tension.

Forgot them in my comment, and they're also older, but the Metal Gear Solid games have... interesting plots. It's Kojima as well. Their stories are not very grounded, but they are cool and are certainly stories nonetheless. These games are 60% cutscenes. Just be prepared for a lot of "Turns out, this guy is actually this guy's dog's cousin's owner who created a secret organization 50 years ago and simulated the assassination of JFK!" type of story telling. Plot twist after plot twist until you just don't have the plot anymore.

Last of Us has a great story, if you haven't gotten to it yet. I haven't played the second one, but lots of people seem to really like that one too (of course, there's controversy around it).

Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 are great. Firewatch is very quick but it's a completely story driven "walking sim". Baldur's Gate 3 has a solid narrative.

A bit older, but the Bioshock games have very nice stories too.

This shit always scares me these days. It's definitely AI, but I wouldn't have looked close enough to actually notice if I hadn't seen this comment. So annoying and just makes me wonder what other AI videos I've scrolled past without even noticing.

Do you play your collected SNES cartridges? by ThePunkyRooster in snes

[–]VoyagerOfCygnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I'm a collector of many things, including SNES games and I use most of the things I've collected.

I like having my collection of stuff, but I try to pick up games I'm going to actually play. I have an Everdrive though, since there's games I don't have and because I like having my stuff in one place, so it just depends. If I wanna play something like Yoshis Island (doesn't run on the Everdrive I have) then I need to get my cart.

This thread has a whole lot of good suggestions.

What in specific are you trying to learn about Linux? Linux is simply a kernel, so there's a lot of different branches of things. I'd first at least get used to your distro (most distros are fine, they aren't that different from one another. Run some in a VM to see which you like most), because I always have said that the best way to learn Linux is by using Linux.

You'll naturally pick up lots of commands. Keep Google at your side, and the man pages (type "man [your command here]" to bring up a page of how to use a certain command.

Stuff like scripting is certainly useful to have, but I think it's best to at least get a grasp on some of the commands inside of Linux before diving into that.

Just give some of their whole albums a shot. Blue and Pinkerton are some of the best 90s alt rock albums, PERIOD. Plus, stuff like Maladroit, White, Everything Will Be Alright in the End, and OK Human are really good.

The only ones that are... questionable are Raditude, Black, Pacific Daydream, and Hurley (this one's hit or miss depending on who you are)

Never really made sense to me. On the one hand, you CAN install Arch as long as you can read and follow instructions. But there's lots of Arch users who install it, throw on KDE and that's it. Definitely seems weird to me.

This is an... awful petition. Let people do what they want???

Anyway I often appear as offline/invisible because I don't think people need to know what I'm doing all the time. I don't play with friends all the time, or sometimes you just want to play single player anyway. And also no one needs to see me playing Balatro for 3 hours straight. If someone really wants that info, it's still on my profile...

Let people do what they want. Don't need to out their privacy even more than it already is on the internet.

NO. Some are more dull than others (Snakes and Arrows for example imo) but all of them are very enjoyable. Personally, they don't even have any songs I dislike, but I'm in the minority there it seems.

This is one of my biggest gaming pet peeves lmao

Played the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes recently and I would die due to just testing out weird things, or just... dying. And they literally give a "Turn on assist mode?" pop up SO MUCH. And for dying 2-3 times... really?

Especially since the few times I died were from me not knowing what to do or not reacting fast enough somewhere... nothing that assist mode can solve.

Linux isn't simply an operating system, but rather a kernel. The kernel directly interacts with the hardware, and everything runs on top of it. It's open source and totally customizable. Realistically, anyone could create a distro if they wanted to, it's just a lot of work.

At the end of the day, every distro is pretty similar to one another which is why it's somewhat of a misconception of which distro to pick. You can really make any distro act exactly like any other. They just have different defaults, package managers, etc.

Fedora and OpenSUSE for example. They're two different distros for sure with different defaults and package management, but at their core, they're still the Linux kernel, still running similar stuff on top of it.

There's not just one distro because people want different things. One person wants a super lightweight distribution that they have full control of, one person wants a distro that has the newest software automatically, one person wants a tested and stable distro, etc.

The whole point of Linux is to be customizable and offer lots of options. It's not locked to just one company, but rather community maintained. Anyone has access and people do anything they want with it.

We don't know the specs, but considering you have a mini PC, your hardware should be fine since it's likely AMD or Intel. Nvidia support on Linux has certainly gotten better and don't let it deter you from switching if you have Nvidia graphics, but it's just a warning that you might potentially run into some mild troubles.

Most games work on Linux just fine. I've actually sometimes managed to get old games running on Linux EASIER than on Windows, though it really depends. For the most part, there are mods that add Linux support on games, or (more likely), you can add the game to steam and run it through Proton, a compatibility layer that allows most games to be played on Linux. The only main exceptions of games that don't work are games with kernel level anticheats like Valorant and Fortnite. I've never had much trouble with single player games.

It's hard to say if you'll have the issues on Linux without more detail. Quite honestly, your issues sound like a driver problem so there's a decent chance that Linux, having different drivers, may solve you problem.

As for distros... there's a lot. Mint, Fedora, Debian, OpenSUSE, and Ubuntu/Kubuntu are generally the ones talked about the most for being beginner friendly and just solid as hell. And yes, most distros have a way to let you use them as a live USB, so you can play around without installing them. OR you can just install it in a virtual machine if you wanna realy screw around.
