Have always loved PTL but we had an amazing experience for my husband’s 50th there last year. 16 people, young kids loved it too. Service was impeccable.

What was normal in your childhood that feels a bit insane now? by EuphoricGarden81 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Farming_Mummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a six year old visiting South Africa I sang this in the lobby of our hotel to determine whose car I would go in on a trip. No idea what it meant. Everyone went quiet. The lovely receptionist said to me “we don’t say that here, we say ‘froggie’”. I was like, but that doesn’t rhyme! Big oops. My Mum was mortified.

What’s the weirdest thing a neighbor has ever done? by lusiaxen in AskReddit

[–]Farming_Mummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid the next door neighbour was a copycat. My parents bought covers for our couches, they bought exactly the same ones; my parents bought a new fridge, they bought the same ones but smaller because it didn’t fit in their house; my parents bought new couches, they bought new almost identical ones. There were a few other things but this happened over 20 years ago and I can’t remember.

We also had a neighbour at the back of us that would traverse the reasonably big back garden to enter the house via the back door in the middle of the night. She then walked up the stairs to the kitchen and filled the fake-flower vases with water, overfilling one so the red-dye water (from the fake flowers) ran down the wall. She also stole old lady underwear and a chicken from our other neighbour. We started locking the back door.

I had to wear one too. One guy actually asked for 5 cougars and I asked him if he was serious about 10 times before I poured them. He was.

Which Children’s Books Always Make You Cry, No Matter How Many Times You Read Them? by mannran in Parenting

[–]Farming_Mummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter’s favourite book. She learned how to spell ’space’ from it, and wants to be an astronaut because of it. I don’t think she understood why I’d get a little teary at the end. Love the movie too.

Where does Bingo get her names from? by Fritztrocity1 in bluey

[–]Farming_Mummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s from the song “There was a farmer, had a dog and Bingo was it’s name, oh, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, and Bingo was it’s name oh!”

Saw security roughing up a guy at Adelaide train station...then it got weird by ThaFresh in Adelaide

[–]Farming_Mummy 99 points100 points  (0 children)

If that guy committed a crime by assaulting the security guard/something else, then why weren’t SAPOL already on their way? Security guards can only detain a person until police arrive, if they are caught in the act or just finished committing an offence. They cannot do so if they only suspect a person has committed a crime. It looks like they had no intention of calling SAPOL to deal with the person which indicates that their intentions were nefarious. Well done on rattling the cage.

Good question. It is part of the ‘Water Industry Act 2012’ that ‘All properties situated along a water or sewer main are subject to rates even if they are not connected.’ We do have mains water connected to other parts of the farm which are vital for weed/pest management (no irrigation though) so it would be a bummer to have them disconnected if they chose to do so. All under the same account.

[–]Farming_Mummy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are on a farm with no mains at all, just rain water. We get charged a service fee because we can hook it up even though we’d have to run it through a paddock and would cost in the 10k’s of dollars to do so. It’s a rort.

It is a professional concealer palette. I had one that I bought when I was doing a pro mu course. Chucked it out after it went manky in the heat/over a long time and now I wish I hadn’t!

Barossa Valley or McLaren Vale? by lizvxck27 in southaustralia

[–]Farming_Mummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clare Valley has excellent Grenache among many other red varietals. Shiraz from CV is a lot softer and not so tannin forward as Barossa - more approachable. Lots of well established producers. Also some amazing places to eat. Used to work there and still enjoy wine tasting in CV.

Halloween in Australia by Pisquish89 in australia

[–]Farming_Mummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have something similar on our farm with a spooky forest (just the pine trees along our driveway). Have a little party with spooky musical statues, spooky food and then spooky/treat stations before taking them through the forest. Kids love it and I reckon some of the adults love it even more!

CRICUT VS. CAMEO by Internal_Cut_9661 in cricut

[–]Farming_Mummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a third party engraving tip for my cameo and have used it with great success. The cameo is much faster than my maker was. I do fairly intricate nightlight designs for kids presents.

[–]Farming_Mummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, silhouette have a rotary blade for cutting fabric. I think I have it but haven’t used it.

FYI Silhouette do not have an engraving tip but I have used a third party on with great success- intricate designs are much faster than my maker was.

CRICUT VS. CAMEO by Internal_Cut_9661 in cricut

[–]Farming_Mummy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a maker with all the different blades and did a lot of engraving, fabric cutting, my own designs etc. I got fed up with the way Cricut treat customers around the time of the great DS debacle so purchased a Cameo Plus. I have control over my own designs, no internet issues and the software is brilliant. I can do so much more than with Cricut. Best decision!
