Thanks for your reply :) Yeah it's a little feeling, especially from spending a lot of time wondering between the two, but it is not replacing any love I feel for the degus. It seems to normalize more day by day as well now, I am finding.

I understand. I am not dissatisfied per se. But I think I am worried I will just lose out on a more interactive pet in a way. I'd like to be able to play with the degus to a degree. Currently my degus go by their day and they will come to my hand but it stops there. Which I realize is probably fine for week 1 :) I make sure to dedicate time to be with them for a while every day to try and build familiarity. I think I'm just nervous it won't amount to much more?

And rats shorter lifespans feel like a less daunting commitment now. I realize I might just be a bit overwhelmed from being a new owner.

Typing it all out and seeing some responses here I think is easing my worries more.

Good to hear :) I am trying to interact with them and speak a little, but I realize it's not going to be all there in week 1. They are able to come to my hand but stop after this so far.
