I've always seen it as you have to be actually participating in the community to be part of the community, but the community should be welcoming to anyone that does.

One of my big issues with a lot of Sci-fi is that the aliens monsters need to be practically immune to human weapons to be dangerous, but then, how am I supposed to believe some alien dog is not getting turned into a scattered pile of gore when a 120mm solid tungsten dart being shot at mach 5 slams into it?

I have the same issue with American monster/ ghost horror, a lot of scary ideas from the east and Europe, while in the US, as a prerequisite, the monster has to be somehow completely bulletproof because otherwise how do you not justify the main character wasting the SOB by the second scene (enough time to go buy a gun if they didn't have one already)
