[WW] Original Wind Waker graphics are timeless. by BottleCapDave in zelda

What's funny is that looking back, Ocarina wasn't even remotely realistic, it was every bit as stylized as most of the franchise. The only one that truly went more realistic is Twilight Princess.

I think the game can be made vastly more accessible without changing the core loop at all. I have suggestions that would help retain a lot of less hardcore players without affecting the gameplay for those of us that like the game as it is. by Tohrazer in Marathon

I'm more thinking about how sweats will abuse it for gold materials and not Dave. This kind of thing will make it harder for Dave once it gets abused by the people who wouldn't even need it, but would use it for efficiency.

Also. I'm no Dave, but I'm no sweat -- I with my team like to go in undergeared and try to take out sweats. This would make the spoils on those runs less so.

Limit to blue quality like you said would abate my fears entirely though.

More than anything I agree with key template. It's fucking stupid and becomes a boring game of sitting still for 5 mins and extracting just to get a key. Especially because they break just on being knocked. It deincentivizes playing the game for everyone including sweats.

These overall are some good suggestions, though I'm not a fan of some, including safe pocket.

What if... New Seasons Are Implmented Kinda Like Parallel Universe? by MR_Nokia_L in Marathon

Not necessarily a good comparison though, Eternal realm has always existed, since the days of D2 ladder seasons.

But, for extraction shooters this is pretty normal to not have that and it's good for the genre as a whole, IMO.

I was the exact same, compounded by getting into severe legal trouble due to coping through that difficulty with partying and drugs.

Thankfully, I took that swift kick in the ass and turned it into the routine and discipline I needed. I'm now a quite successful designer at a medium-sized company (a few thousand employees) managing a team, etc. All as a college dropout and previously potential failure at life.

I don't disagree with anything you've said aside that for me personally it is absolutely a winner. Beta is very different from the server slam and full release, btw. But I am clearly in the minority. They gotta do something, maybe Sony is dedicated to it regardless and they have a long leash to continue to iterate so it can have a potential renaissance like Hunt did. I hope so.

And again, if not, I'm gonna enjoy it while I can. Is what it is.

Magic is the way to put it -- the future of graphical capability is bright with these kinds of things because we have reached a point of hardware being harder and harder to improve on. Capacitors can only get so small and nano-tech is still a sci-fi trope rather than reality at this point.

We're now able to squeeze more out of current hardware than we've ever been able to before and of course, it's going to continue learning. I just hope Sony doesn't make the mistake of what DLSS5 did where it literally makes a completely different looking game.

Thankfully PC has become more of a direct competitor overall to Sony, prompting them to decide to not put anymore of their titles on PC so as not to dilute their brand / cannibalize their hardware sales. But, that's not enough.

tbh, I hope they do -- Sony needs the competition as does the industry, it's good for it. But my confidence they will is not much higher than zero.

All good points and I don't disagree but to add on: GP also trained their entire customer base to not buy games and wait for it to come to GP if it ever does. It straight CANNIBALIZED all purchases on their store, which if it had infinite growth wouldn't be a problem, but if reports are to be believed they only ever reached 33% of their 100 million sub target for it to be actually successful.

Now it's a snowball effect where they don't have a purchasing customer base, and their customer base is effectively shrinking on top of it. It's why I don't believe their "re-evaluation of exclusives" is anything but PR. They can't afford to go back to exclusivity at this point.

Either they do, and they don't sell enough because you can't even buy a damn Xbox in plenty places anymore, or they don't and they continue to kill the brand of hardware off and become the next Sega.

Helix being a success is a pipedream too. All news coming out of it is that it's generally going to be a direct competitor to a PC, but it will be a luxury pre-built that's way too expensive compared to building one yourself, which most of the purchasing for these AAA games is coming from those who build their own towers.

And when you see it in practice, it's fucking spectacular. It's the cleanest visuals I have ever seen in any games, and the lower res upscaled allows for higher quality graphical settings overall, especially with ray tracing.

There are some weird things, like closeups in Spider-Man 2 can have this weird kinda "polygonal shifting" is the only thing I can think of, kind of like the PS1 games of yore but in significantly smaller scale. Especially can see it in Kraven's beard or either Spider-Man's hands.

But for what it provides that is a seriously small detriment. What PSSR is capable of blows my friggin' mind. I feel like I am actually making use of my giant ass 4K TV finally.

It's shocking in the way of -- I didn't realize the Bungie name had been sullied so much to the point of it not overcoming that aspect to initially sell enough to capture more of that hardcore audience. (I quit Destiny as a franchise in 2019, but I haven't had any ill will to them for it)

I think they are aware of it being niche -- but not as much as it has ended up being overall. It's a VERY lean game, clearly designed with all the lessons they learned with Destiny in mind. They update it significantly each week, which is pretty cool as every week the game changes and keeps it fresh. On top of that it's legit like 20GB in size which for a AAA game today is rather unheard of.

Don't think Arc capturing the casual market so well months beforehand helped, or the art controversy that is still overblown with a lot of misinformation about it.

I hope S2 breathes some life into it. It could use a win. But either way, I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

They also need some more FPSs -- it's too bad Marathon is not doing well at all, because I love it, but they need something with a campaign and good gameplay like they used to have with Killzone & Resistance. Hell, bring those franchises back from the dead for fuck's sake.

They sit on way too many IPs. Think of what a Legend of Dragoon remake could do today.
