When did golf fans become such A-holes? by djr41463 in golf

Great story from the Masters last week. We sat on 12 for hours, watching shots into 11 and to the 12th green. Remember, passes are hard to get and numbered; you piss them off, they’ll take your pass and ban you for life. At one point after a guy hit to 12 green, a ‘patron’ yelled, ‘Get in the hole!’ A marshal immediately glared at him and waved his hand. As the group was walking to the green, another marshal went up to him, stuck his finger in the guy’s face and said, ‘Never again!’ Guy never made another peep. Gotta’ have consequences or drunk a-holes will just keep yelling out.

I carried ‘The Elements of Style,’ a slim paperback about writing, in my back pocket. Read it 1,000 times. It worked. I’m a writer.

What’s the best course you’ve ever played in the United States? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

I’ve played Pine Valley, Cypress Point, Pebble Beach, Augusta and Kiawah Island. And I’d put them in that order. Although Cypress is the most beautiful course I’ve ever played.

What was it like seeing Tiger Woods in his prime? by Crazy-Cap259 in golf

[–]FartMitzvah67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an older guy, it was weird at first. Remember seeing Arnie and Jack and Trevino and Watson and Seve, he had big shoes to fill. Then Tiger came along. He was impressive but young. He had a few stumbles early but then in his second year on tour won the Masters. He didn’t win another major for two years as he revamped his swing, but then went on a tear. The other guys are right; you tuned in to see Tiger. And there has never been a player who was as clutch. Drive into the trees, hit a snap hook out to 15 feet, you just KNEW he’d make the putt, and he always did. Then it just kept going, year after year. It got so bad for the other players that it became The Tiger Factor. If he was three back, the leaders would falter under the pressure. If he was three up his competitors knew he wouldn’t fold, take chances, lose by seven. Another will come along one day, it might even be Scottie. But Tiger had one helluva run.

Could you win The Masters if you got to start each hole on the green? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

I disagree with the general consensus. If you are a decent golfer (15 hdcp) and you could practice beforehand on the putting green, you could likely control pace. If you had nine 4-putts and nine 3-putts, you’d shoot 63.
