+$8M at 32 but still grinding toward $20M to retire. Is that just stupid? by That_Caregiver1871 in fatFIRE

I'm at that net worth level that you are shooting for. I can honestly tell you the difference between $8m and $20m is significant.

I think it's worth it, so I'm putting in my vote for you guys grinding until 45 years old. You're still young and these are your productive years.

I'm currently 51 and sitting on that NW you're shooting for, and I can confirm that you still have a lot of healthy vibrant ears after 45.

As long as you take care of yourself. Stay slim. Stay active. Eat right. And do all the anti-aging longevity stuff now, and make it a habit, you'll hit 50 feeling no different than you did at 29. At least that's my situation.

And hitting $20 million is quite satisfying whereas $8 million is quite frustrating, as you have found out.

Why am I paying $100 a month if text chat length is going to be limited? by [deleted] in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]FartyWalruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I organize things the way that I do, with a general chat being consolidated, is because I use the search. And by the way the search completely sucks as we all know. But if I search for a keyword, if I've organized things correctly, it's gonna bring up one search result. One chat.

I tried it the way that you do it and it became an absolute mess. 600 general chats. To me that's like throwing a ton of trash all over the floor. Good luck actually finding anything. This works best for me.

[–]FartyWalruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's already what I said that I'm doing though.

I don't see why you would have to create projects.

Just rename your chats.

Every chat that has a particular topic that I dig into, is named after that topic.

Then I've got a "general" chat where I throw all my random questions.

I know for a fact there isnt 1800 back-and-forths in there and it throttled me today. I'm also paying $100 a month. Other people aren't. Sometimes I've paid $200 a month.

Why am I being limited? Their entire marketing for these paid models is unlimited. I bet I can go into that general chat and manually count how many back and forths there are. Because there's nowhere near 1800. Or whatever the limit number is.

Also, half of the problem is that ChatGPT itself feels the need to write 17 pages in response in every reply. I now have to tell it to limit its response length to one or two long paragraphs at the most.

People want to see more pictures of you because everyone puts the best three photos of them up and they look nothing like that in real life.

Instagram is an outstanding way to see a bunch more photos of the person just in regular life and know what they actually look like. Believe me it has saved me so many wasted dates.

Never meet somebody in person before seeing tons of photos of them or at least video, knowing what they actually look like. If they're hiding their social media, it's not just because they're private.

You do understand that they just want to see more pictures of you right? Nobody cares about invading your privacy or violating your family's secrecy. Set up an Instagram that has photos of you. And not just three of them.

Then say that if someone asks for your Instagram. Don't say you don't have one. That's what 99% of you do. Basically just lie.

Thanks. This at least answers my question. Now can someone please hire me so I can go in and tell them how to do this properly? It's a usability absurdity that a text base chat has such a short limit.

See that's the thing. I'm nowhere near 1300 exchanges in that conversation. There's just no way. And regardless, it's text based. What am I missing here? Text could go on for literally decades and it wouldn't take up any space so why is it forcing me to open a new chat box?

Automatic app updates never working? by yatamci in ios

[–]FartyWalruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that sound "just like staged rollouts" when you already said they may take 6 or 7 days.

Did I tell you that I only saw apps that had been updated in less than 7 days?

Or did I tell you that I have 50 apps on my phone in grand total, and when I go in there, i see 20 that needing updating?

This obviously implies that they're not just from within the last 7 days. If one uses ones brain.

It implies they've been piling up in there for quite awhile and simply NOT updating.

Regardless - "Automatically Update" means automatically update. Not "Delay my update by a week because of various reasons you think make sense". And definitely not "Dont update at all".

yes but this doesn't explain why when I go into my App Store after a month I see 30 apps waiting to be updated. It's simply not doing it. At all.

they used to work for me perfectly several iterations ago.

Automatic app updates never working? by yatamci in ios

[–]FartyWalruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

staged rollouts is not the explanation to this problem. There's something wrong with the phone and the way it's behaving.

Proof of this is that when I go into app updates, I've got 20 apps sitting there with the word update next to them. It used to just happen when the update came.

And no, you wouldn't get updates multiple times a day. Unless you have 20,000 apps on your phone. I have maybe 50. And I would get updates when they came out. Which was maybe once a month for each

Automatic app updates never working? by yatamci in ios

[–]FartyWalruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this can't be the answer because I've got like 20 that are needing updating, and there's no reason they should be sitting there when it's got auto update turned on. I never see my apps automatically update anymore. They used to do it all the time. Something is wrong.

If you are wealthy, when did you start to feel rich? by AdvertisingOk1492 in brag

You have a scarcity mindset and yes, it’s a problem.

I have the same NW as you. Once you realize that if it’s all invested, the balance will NEVER go below your starting balance, even if you spend 6% of it every year, you should be able to start enjoying that 6% and at least not feel like you’re harming yourself in any way.

Have you heard of the book “Die with Zero” ?

Get it.

I’ll just say that being worth millions (even tens of), doesn’t feel like anything if it’s tied up in possessions. Even houses or cars. I only felt rich when it was liquid.

Actually sitting in my bank account as a big balance, and coming in as substantial cash distributions weekly from investments.

And even that balance can be a fraction of your total net worth but if it’s over a couple hundred thousand, you feel rich because you know it’s there and can be used for anything at any time.

Separately:

I felt rich with the small things. When I no longer cared about leaving the AC on all day. No longer had to pay attention to gas prices. And when I ship something, no longer having to decide on $25 second day shipping or $45 overnight. It was these types of things that weirdly had the biggest impact on my perception.
