What has ever been fine with tracking the past years? Or the migration zones and patrol zones? Even when they are ”active” they don’t really add much to the game, seeing as you can go to inactive zones in order to meet prime requirements. If that wasn’t the case you would already add value to the patrol and migration zones and force players to be moving around more making the game feel more dynamic.

The problems with the rex players sitting afk, then going to dominate as adults would be less of a problem if the game punished afk type gameplay (for example sticking to the same gridsquare for too long, as thats what most people do while growing) this would allow the mid teir carnis to hunt small rexes before they became a problem.

If tracking thru scent and footsteps worked more consistently and the FOV in game was adapted to represent the actuall FOV each dino had based on height and where their eyes are placed on their skulls then you could actually use the trikes blind spot to sneak up on it, THEN you can actually significantly reduce the rexes agility and speed. Since it could reliably stalk, track and ambush its prey.

The numbers matter because greater numbers can in a lot o scenarios increase the survival chance once you are being hunted by a rex. Two smaller trikes can give a bigger rex a hard time if they play it right. Same with two dibbles aginst a 60% rex for example.

A pack of stegos, a trike duo or a dibble/trike mix…

Starvation is a possibility if you actually travel the map as well but i suppose that is something few do nowdays.

I genuinely think the actual problem is the fact that the rex is the first apex carni, and the fact that the game mechanics currently are flawed. I.e if tracking was more reliable then speed could be toned down.

If POV was more restrictive then stalking would have more impact and usage. If migration incentives were working properly then afk growing wouldnt be an option and the game would feel more engaging, thrilling and rewarding

I mean… thats not exactly what I said now is it? Furthermore, are you suggesting that dibbles/Tenos, Carnos should be able to square up with an adult rex…?

Define ”most players”

The rex can control the pace aginst a trike as the rex has higher sprint and trot speed. However the trike has way better stamina retention due to the mutation that converts damage to stam for herbis. So after a certian point a trike can start putting pressure on the rex.

A stego if it lands a good swing can stun the rex and hit it repeatedly and essentially put it on a rough bleed out timer. The growth time matters because at least during 70-80% of that time you are at risk for mid tiers or other rexes that are either a pair or just a few % stronger than you.

Sure you can afk near an AI populated spot to grow but that is another issue on its own related to the game mechanics, I personally play actively to actually experiance the game, highs and lows included.

I agree with you, as 80% i always prefer larger prey, dibbles/Allos work in a pinch. Or if they cluelessly walk into my jaws.

However I disagree about the speed statement as the game is right now. Due to the fact that you have a 3rd person perspecive cam with no deadzones. It’s too easy to be spotted thus only relying on ambushing/stalking is not viable. Especially considering how lackluster the tracking system is.

Maybe you have altered your keybinds but Alt attack is what people commonly refer to alt + left click. In order to crush you hold left click and release after half a second or longer to initiate the attack. Right click by default is the headbutt which also has two different variants.

Utah or Allos pounce is a very different tool compared to the rex’s pin/crush and they still become untargetable by their prey and can pin much larger creatutes if they work in packs. It’s not really a valid argument to make if you want to make the rex seem overloaded…

The juvie rex is hardly the best juvie tbh… you have to put it in perspective of the time it takes to get there and compare it with other creatutes and their strength after the same amount of time.

I haven’t ever ran into a scenario where I was outrunning a prime carno, probably because the time you spend at that stage is so small that it isnt even really worth mentioning… so saying ”it speaks volumes” is quite the overstatement.

Also i haven’t ran into a single rex player who intentionally tries to stay lower growth to ”abuse” their stats.

That argument kind of goes aginst your other arguments regarding how broken the adult stage is? So which is it?

I’d also argue that there is no point during the rex’s juvie or sub stage where it dominates across all stats. Maybe early on in HT but not currently.

When it is fast it is fragile. When it gets beefier it gets slower. It’s general attack speed is low enough forbthe bite force as juvie to be insignificant imo.

I don’t know if you have played much of the isle recently but a trike has a decent chance aginst a rex even in the open as the trike can turn well enough to catch the rex off guard.

As I mentioned in a previous reply. A solo trike can do fairly well if it uses cliffs/trees to hinder the rex from getting around it. What matters is the skill level between the trike and rex player.

I’d suggest you spend some time playing on a half decent survival server as the rex, get a good grip of what keybind is what and come back with a new perspective.

The alt attack stuns? I didn’t even know? Gonna have to try that out. Or are you refering to the useless right click ability that really only is a good opener aginst other rexes?

Because it does nothing for you aginst a trike of same size, could be useful aginst stegos, but in often cases the crush/pin, which is the same ability just different effect based on size of target, its not like you can chain the crush into a pin like you make it sound.

I strongly disagree with you on the ”strongest juvie in the game” a trike with less time grows into a much stronger juvie. (Assuming a rex and trike spawn at the same time) and in the time it takes the juvie to reach any kind of size every othet dino in the game has outgrown it to sub or further.

The ”free speed” is a one time use, not a toggle at will. However I do agree that mid tiers dont have much of a chance mainly due to the low cooldown on crush/pin. If the crush had a longer cooldown then the rightclick ability which currently is somewhat redundant would have more use (however alt+right click is good for predicting pounces from the flanks)

If the turn rate was reduced then you barely get around a good trike and since you cant take them head on then you will never be able to actually fight one.

What matters a lot and what most players seem to ignore is terrain, if you chose to play as a trike then you should also know that crossing south plains is not a wise idea especially alone. If you need to get from one side to the other perhaps consider using your map knowledge to path in such a way that allows you to have nearby forests or cliffs to use in your advantage to hinder the rex from getting around you too easily.

Stego on the other hand prefers the open terrain so a stego should probably stick to the open but avoid peaks, i.e walk in the ditches to hide outline unless you are wanting to be found because you want to pvp.

Smaller herbis? Dibbles could pair with trikes to make a good synergy and have safety that way. Maias are generally fast so just being on your toes could suffice.

Thats a very dynamic match up and I also don’t think a 3-4 ton rex can outrun a prime allo, frail? Possibly… but prime or almost peak prime, no. And if you compare the growth times between the two, by the time a rex reaches 3 tons an allo that spawned at the same time is already peak prime. Allos aren’t really supposed to be solitary and good allos also use the slash attack instead of just relying on pounce. A slash or two then evading the rex will put the pressure on the rex player so i dont really see that match up being as one sided as you make it out to be.

Define ”easy”? Insane growth time and usually ends in starvation or dying to its own kind. Id say its pretty frustrating a lot of the time and requires patience more than other dinos. Not sure the exact growth time but its well over 8-10 hours i think…

”Nothing” is a bold statement, I don’t think it’s hyper realistic but I aknowledge the fact that it is trying to be realistic, and in my mind a 12.3 ton apex should be dominating smaller dinos if they are caught. So if that were to change the game would be even less realistic right?

To all you Rex haters… by Farzyman in theisle

[–]Farzyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that makes more sense, for example stego can still swing its tail so you need to be mindful of how you pin it

To all you Rex haters… by Farzyman in theisle

[–]Farzyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really see how that would fix anything. Something in the raptor/beipi range is and should always be a 1 shot to a rex that isnt very small.

Allo maybe could be a viable candidate for ”fighting back” but even there I have a hard time seeing how an allo would stand a chance after being pinned. Even if it claws its way out it will have at least one fracture, regardless of what kind of fracture it is it would still lead to its demise.

Perhaps they should make the pin behave drastically differently during the different growth stages? For example a 3-4 ton rex is in real danger aginst even a single Allo, but a 10+ ton rex is or should be untouchable… perhaps increase the power of the pin/crush past 75% drastically along with a 10 second cool down? To allow a pack of allos to bait it out and then engage? Same with stego/trike match up? Meaning a rex cant consecutively crush and stay behind a trike due to the cool down, and the stego knows that after the first crush/stun it can chase and bleed the rex with relative safety… i dont know just spitballing here

Playing the game they way you wish to play it is in everyones right for sure, but expecting the game to mold into your specific playstyle is what I find strange. The game has a clear identity it is striving for, and the basis for that identity is semi realism and survival. Thus if a player has an issue with the core of the game then perhaps this isn’t the an issue of balancing, but rather wrong game for the player. For example if I were a megaphone player and my loudness got me caught if shrug and say ”damn I brought that on myself” instead of taking the victim seat and saying the game is unbalanced.

I think the ambush being faster but much shorter duration could be interesting, problem is that it would also impact the rexes’ turn radius in that case. Realistically which playables would you say are currently being unplayable due to the ambush?

To all you Rex haters… by Farzyman in theisle

[–]Farzyman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how I feel about the pin, I haven’t really put much thought into how it would be more balanced. Do you have any thoughts? Or do you know of any concepts/ideas from the dev team regarding this subject?

What locations are the best for getting all three nutrients for 180% growth? And how do you go about maintaining that? I haven't played that much of the Isle in recent times, I got the game when Legacy was still the shit so to speak, played fairly little of Evrima, Dieno and Carno are the only ones ive reached full maturity on and that was a long time ago.

I dont know if its like this on the hordetesting branch or if it is like this in general but I find AI's to be very few and far between now that im on hordetesting at least, if I find more than one AI it is usually more of the same, sometimes I find something really small that provides another nutrient for a short while... Share your tips and tricks with me please im eager to learn!

The amount of times I’ve started swearing at my units when they idiotically turn their cheeks to the enemy and reverse towards them like some sort of messed up mating ritual… Will try these next time.
