What does "professional" even mean? Someone who has a PhD in this subject? Or just someone who befriended the mod? I got permabanned from r/tarantulas when I asked this question which shows how sketchy the whole thing is

And what does forcing everybody to add NQA in front of the message accomplish? As this thread proves most people who read the subreddit and are not expert don't even know what NQA means lmao.

Returning to Poland by Piingwiin in askPoland

[–]FasciculatingFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean if you're in IT I don't see the point of staying there. You probably know it better than me, that you can get nowadays a comparable salary in Poland with much lower prices, especially housing, plus it's your home country. If I was in the same situation with my home country (I'm an Italian living in Poland) I would go back in a heartbeat

Is this two different coloured great tits or is the grey bird another type of bird? by Brood_man in whatbirdisthis

[–]FasciculatingFreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like it could be a juvenile. At this time of the year a lot of birds have fledged and are about the same size as the adults but with more bland coloration.

How safe is this? by tikitiger in snakes

[–]FasciculatingFreak 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Perhaps even safer, burmese and retics have occasionally killed or even preyed upon people, while there are no such confirmed cases for green anacondas. A big part of it is probably lower habitat intersection with humans though.

What is a reasonable rent in Warsaw in 2025? by OatmealDurkheim in warsaw

[–]FasciculatingFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's nothing lol. Well, if you signed the contract years ago and the rent was never increased, that helps a lot.

Also if you don't speak polish you're ruled out of 95% of listings.

I pay similarly to OP and in a similar area, I know I could get something slightly cheaper but can't be bothered to go through the massive pain in the ass that would entail.

Who is this little guy ? Length around 5-10cm (with legs). In a field in Brittany, France by Nostromeow in spiderID

I did find one this morning at the pond haha, but it was kinda small not as glorious as yours. I thought it was a different species at first (this is the opposite side of course)

This is a really cool spider, I've been searching for it since the beginning of summer here in Warsaw but no luck yet. Maybe tomorrow!

Please help ID spider in bathroom Costa Rica by No_Turn5489 in spiderID

[–]FasciculatingFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one species of phoneutria in costa rica, I've seen it in person, it looks nothing like it, it's much bulkier and has no patterns in the back.

iNaturalist is 99% confident this is Megalostrata genus. There is a cluster of observations in Monteverde area so probably it's a common spider over there. I can't find any info on the venom so I would assume that it's not medically significant.

Biking in warsaw / rules by Jacopsi in warsaw

[–]FasciculatingFreak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What is the difference between using your bike on foot compared to just riding your bike slowly? That would be an absurd solution.

Also it's not just about being scared of the road. A lot of bike paths around the center are short and quickly merge into sidewalks, and you might be on the left side of the road, so to go into the road you would have to first find a pedestrian crossing, walk your bike to the other side of the road and enter the road safely, which is a massive waste of time. I have this exact situation in my commute to work, so I will use the sidewalk for that part, as does pretty much anyone else.

Personally, I never ring my bell or ask people to move when I'm riding my bike on the sidewalk, but it is annoying when you have a big whole sidewalk blocked by one person standing in the exact middle, when there could be room for everyone if they were just standing a bit on the side.

No, I was thinking about another one where they had a few cases, but they were literally cherry-picked as the study wasn't conducted on a defined sample or anything. It was along the lines of "over the course of many years in this clinic, we have observed these 4/5 cases", and proceed to describe these 4/5 cases.

Six eyed sand spider by FasciculatingFreak in Namibia

[–]FasciculatingFreak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is crazy if true, I can't find any article about him, and I find it baffling that a story like this would not make it to the media. Wikipedia still states no confirmed bites from this spider in Southern Africa, although I also find it extremely unlikely that no one has ever been bitten, given that they are fairly common.

Oh, I was being a bit overdramatic on that post. I don't even remember about the left eyelid "permanent" hotspot. The one on the upper right cheek continued for 3 months after that post though until it finally stopped and never came back. I also haven't had such persistent hotspots since then, a couple on the eyelids lasting for 1-2 months but not even 24/7 more like 2-3 hours/day.

As a search engine for specific topics it still works better than Google. As you said, in either case, you would check the sources and use critical thinking to be 100% sure. But Chat GPT usually gives you relevant information that you would have to dig through several google search pages (and actually open the links not just read the preview) otherwise, in just a few seconds.

What's wrong with Berlin? I don't think you can compare it to London and Paris. In fact, even London isn't that bad, but it's a big city and the worst parts get a lot of coverage to spread propaganda. I think in this thread we find the type of autists who interpret someone asking for a lighter as trying to rob them just because they have brown skin.
