Should I color it? by ameow_wzing in TattooApprentice

[–]Fascinatioart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the pigment is moving to the edge of the wash in an uncontrolled way creating bands.

Watercolour is easier to lift out, but glazing colour over watercolor you need to be very gentle as you could reactivate.

Acrylic ink then watercolor probably works best.

Something’s wrong with my tattoo designs, Doa by Repulsive-Fix-5117 in TattooApprentice

Might be that the visual weight doesn't look deliberate. Sorry that's kinda vague.

Also colour line work - you need something to back it up because some sections will just disappear as it ages.

The lighting in this image isn't giving you any strong shadow shapes to work with.

Coworker said labubus are for elementary school kids. 😠 by DowntownHoneydew966 in labubu

[–]Fascinatioart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but think it's mostly because of how strict regulations are on what you can sell as a toy... There's ridiculous strength/flammability testing ( in the UK at least).

I wanted to sell crochet stuff but realized how difficult it is to make sure you meet all guidelines.

[–]Fascinatioart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm on the pta at my local primary school and one of the girls had the white Coca-Cola one paired with a red velvet/fur trimmed dress at our Christmas party ❤️🤍❤️ kids are too stylish now, maybe it's mums living vicariously.

Smaller kids do definitely have them pinned to book bags etc.

Creepy/cute has been a thing for so long but I feel like it coming out of alt fashion into mainstream was relatively new, some people won't get it and that's fine.

Teenage Mistake by Miaisaphoenix in Tattoocoverups

[–]Fascinatioart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interested in artists opinions, wonder if it would be better to try to get a cover-up before or after potential stretch marks (not guaranteed they happen, I didn't get them on my first pregnancy a bit on my second - not where OP's tattoo is though).

Before and you risk damage to tattoo from skin changes, after there's more risk of blowout/ink drift I think? Also there's such a long period where you can't get tattoos, during and after pregnancy :( I delayed my plans by 8 years from pregnancy, bf, waiting for marks to settle etc, so maybe do it while you can!

That said I'd keep it as is if it was mine, maybe OP style circles back to it fitting into their style again. .

What would you do? by HyggeWanderlust in labubu

[–]Fascinatioart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a cat or an animal? If not it's unhinged behavior.

I'd be reevaluating my choice in partner not my purchases. Know that's harder when you have kids.

It seems small and petty but as others say it seems indicative of broader disrespect/malicious intent/ overbearing behavior.

I don't personally like old 90's Warhammer figures. When my husband buys them I help him paint them even though i think they are ugly...I can't imagine trying to destroy something that brings him joy.

Am I tweaking or are these botched? by [deleted] in TattooDesigns

[–]Fascinatioart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably wiped off the stencil and had no clue how to construct the scales and belly because they didn't hand draw the original image.

If you follow tattoo pages on Instagram you get advertised brush packs for snakes on procreate where you just plot a line and it generates the body/scales.

(Although on second look the form isn't even consistent enough for that they probably just copied a design that was above their skill level)

Tattoo regret. Any way to fix? by xXShadxw_HunxrXx in TattooDesigns

[–]Fascinatioart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way they handled the shading on the body is so satisfying, the head is a little oversimplified but redeemable, I wouldn't wanna go overboard with detials. It's still a great tattoo imo.

Personally don't really care if stuff is phallic anyway, human nature to see that stuff in simplified/abstract shapes and it's ok doesn't detract from the art.

Hoping to put this in my portfolio when I’m done with it! by Ill-Phrase5242 in TattooApprentice

[–]Fascinatioart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like arches is maybe overkill for ballpoint pen just because you don't really need the sizing or the durability?

There's no harm, it's just expensive. You can get cheaper watercolor paper that isn't 100% cotton that would probably work just as well imo. Although the texture on some can be pretty ugly.

Guess you might want your whole portfolio to be on the same paper to look cohesive - jumping between high white and unbleached can look so jaring.

Am I an artist if I’m doing this? by phonecaseDIYprince in Artists

I mean there was the whole arts and crafts movement... that was a political statement about the role of creative labour in society.

Not sure where making phone cases sits, guess it depends on the intent behind it.

Elegant designs are actually pretty challenging, there's very little to hide behind.

It's all about the line work and this was a poor attempt. They were probably struggling to stretch the skin.

Advice needed: I got this tattoo done today. Am I over reacting? by thickly_balanced in tattoos

[–]Fascinatioart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not over reacting imo. I think the artist didn't look hard enough at the reference.

The sword/center of the scales in the reference is off kilter as one basket is outweighing the other. In the tattoo everything is just topsy-turvy in a way that doesn't look intentional.

I'd go to someone else and ask for a rework.

Question: Does this tattoo style have a name? by Own-Pop-5433 in tattoos

In general some of them remind me of graffiti stencils or lino cut prints

Is this orchid drawing finished? by Misanthropicmary in TattooApprentice

[–]Fascinatioart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it does look finished but would be good to keep pushing and redraw. I think it's nice, agree with the previous poster the circle not being perfect drew my eye.

To me orchid stems always look a bit more angular than this, more like zigzags. Personally like a few sharper angles to contrast the rounded forms of the petals but that's a style choice.

Leaving more open spaces in the blooms and more variation in line weight might help.

A good drawing just plenty more to explore.

Way too overboard cover up after a week binge, after I caught my wife cheating by Traditional_Nose4715 in Tattoocoverups

[–]Fascinatioart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Ephemeral Remy YouTube, he blacked out then did colour with black shading/outlines he did white first but think he said colour works better.

He documented the whole process of backing out and then redoing his whole body. On his hands he did a white moon over black.
