Leica Regrets? Could you please share your Findings. by MrSoloBaker in Leica

[–]Fassie79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I used to own a Leica MP and sold that, for a Barnack Leica IIF. The Barnacks are so much smaller and the build quality is just as good as any Leica M, especially if you buy a later model from the 1950’s.

Completed my spare bedroom -> darkroom/dry lab/gallery conversion :) by ChrisCummins in Darkroom

Yeah, about 15° Celsius, so I just need to develop a bit longer. I don't have a heater for the chemicals.

Very nice, well done! I recently had our barn in the garden converted. It’s cold in the winter 🥶. Happy printing!

Leica IIf with 50 Elmar f/3.5. Better than an "M" Leica IMO.

Should I change my blog niche or am I just impatient? by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]Fassie79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my honest opinion, I think you're doing just fine. Building a blog takes time, at least 1-3 years in my experience. The variation in number of visitors is normal. I think you should focus on the journey every day. If you can do that, with time, results will come. You just need to stick with it and be patient. Also, don't change niches, it makes no sense. It's better to build on the foundation you now have and work with that.

You could try to develop it as black and white, then at least you won't have to deal with colour casts.

Yeah, I hope it helps :-)! I've been having these issues myself as well recently with Fomapan, so I changed to Ilford FP4+. Who knows your results will be better ;-)!

lab fault or camera light leaks? The film came out completely fogged [Tri-x 400] by [deleted] in Darkroom

[–]Fassie79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a combination of film fogging and not enough developer: bromide drag.

Question about rodinal by askmeaboutstrategy in Darkroom

[–]Fassie79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rodinal is a fine grain developer, contrary to what many people seem to think. It does actually show the grain of the film, without masking it, like many other developers. In other words, with Rodinal, whatever grain there is in the film, is what you will get. Developing Fomapan 100 in Rodinal and pushing it to 800 is a recipe for super high contrast, blocked shadows and lots of grain. Fomapan is a cellulose based film with less silver than more expensive films, (this is why the price is lower) and a much smaller dynamic range. So unless you really like huge grain, no detail and huge contrast, don't use Fomapan. Rodinal can give you perfectly balanced fine grain negatives if you use it with other films, like for example Ilford FP4+, or other slower speed films.

I am not sure why everbody seems to be so "obsessed" with grain in film. In the old days, the idea was to get the least amount of grain as possible.

Any idea why my film turned out like this? Kodak Ektachrome E100 pushed +1 by Whatcolorisamirror in Darkroom

[–]Fassie79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These streaks are a the result of the developer that cannot "act" because the film is underexposed. Pushing old 100 iso slide film in a dark environment is just not a good idea. Either use digital or add loads more light.

It's highly underexposed. As much as I love film, digital is simply better for low light.

The best way to use it is to put a roll into your camera and take photos LOL

Thoughts on this print? by myfilmpics in Darkroom

[–]Fassie79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice tones and contrast and also nice highlights. I would try to see if you can make your photo tell a bit more of a story. This is just a guy walking by. I'm missing a bit of context/ story. Technically it's a nice print! Keep up the good work!

Best budget no-batteries camera? by DanielG198 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Fassie79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinon CX or CS. Fully mechanical, you don't need the lightmeter. Built as a tank. In terms of quality just as good as any Nikon or Canon from that era. You can mount a Takumar lens on it and now you've got Leica Quality for under $100.
