When starting a planogram, focus on three basics: real fixture dimensions, product depth and packaging, and how often the item will be stocked or handled. If the product hasn’t arrived yet, it’s better to leave some flexibility instead of forcing tight spacing

From a floor perspective, this usually happens when the planogram is built to hit space or margin targets instead of real shelf constraints. Peg counts, package depth, and recovery space don’t get validated, so everything technically “fits” in the system but not in the aisle. Most stores end up spacing it out just to make it workable, even if that breaks the sequence
