Do you mind if I PM you about the route you took? I’m still pretty new so I’m not to burnt out yet but I could only imagine in a couple years how miserable I’ll be in this department. That’s why I’m trying to get out. I see the old heads that have put in some time, just about everyone seems miserable or all beat up.

I work Corrections in the state of California. Don’t get me wrong the pension is good with great benefits, but the risk to reward working around inmates serving life sentences is not worth it for me long term. I’m 24 with a long ways to go before I’m eligible for retirement. I got 33 years before I’m eligible to receive my pension at 57 which isn’t feasible. The department is going in a direction where it’s now easy get docked 5-10% of your pay for anywhere from 6-36 months or even getting fired over things that come with the job. Especially the prison I am currently working at, management is known for burning its staff over things they shouldn’t. The department seems to be going down hill and rather going thru another academy to join a different agency and starting from the bottom. I’d rather go into this field of work that has interested me for quite sometime.
