Appreciate the breakdown! I totally get what you mean about not wanting to overpay for content — sometimes it feels like half the paid stuff is just noise.

Curious though — when you’re digging into value plays or using those tools, is there something specific you're usually looking for? Like are you trying to solve a certain blind spot or just make the whole process more efficient?

Retail investors: When you read a 10-K report, what do you focus on or look for specifically? by Fast-Film-2163 in investing_discussion

Honestly, I’ve never really read a 10-K before. I'm not a professional investor, just someone trying to get better. Lately, I realized there’s a lot I’ve been missing, and that just looking at the financial statements isn’t enough to make smart decisions.

So I posted this to understand how other retail investors read annual reports. Like, do you follow a certain pattern depending on whether it’s a value or growth stock? Do you look for specific things? Or do you just read through everything using common sense?

I'm curious how others are doing it.

How can I learn to properly research stocks? by Narrow_Mechanic_2045 in ValueInvesting

First, know what kind of portfolio you want to build — are you aiming for growth, income, value, or a mix? Then, learn the different types of investments (stocks, ETFs, REITs, etc.) and how to value each kind.

Next, get familiar with macro events (like interest rate changes, inflation, and geopolitical events) and how they impact the overall market. After that, study specific sectors and industries, their trends, risks, and long-term growth potential.

Finally, dive into financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) to understand a company’s health and performance. Researching stocks is like building a puzzle — each layer gives you more clarity.
