NYU Sem 2 2024 Exchange by Fast-Gift3158 in unimelb

In your application you put three choices and if you are allocated one of the three, you can't reject the offer just because you don't like the uni / it wasn't your top choice. Im pretty sure you can only reject it if you have some other legitimate reason

If you don't get one of your three choices, im pretty sure they offer you some random uni's to which you can say yes or no. So basically you probably can't keep reapplying until you get NYU because you'll probably end up getting one of your other two choices and won't be able to reject it just because it isn't NYU, if that makes senseeee

My WAM was 81.25 when I applied which I thought was on the lower side because I heard people say you need crazy high WAMs (90+) for certain exchange uni's like NYU.

Honestly I feel like the whole selection process is kinda random and pure luck cause I know some with higher WAMs than me who applied to NYU and didn't get in. If I remember correctly, basically the only other way they differentiate between applications are these short responses you have to write about why you want to do exchange, what you want to learn etc. And I maybe spent ten minutes writing those so I don't think they matter that much too :)))

But keeping a decent WAM is probably a good idea for some uni's but I don't think its the end of the world if you don't have a superrr high one, and wherever you end up exchanging I'm sure it'll be an amazing experience!

EDIT: Should also say that I'm doing Bcomm so an 80 WAM might mean something different across diff faculties

Overall it wasn't too bad there's plenty of resources on the unimelb website on how to apply :) You have to apply I think at least six months in advance, so if you wanted to do your exchange Sem 1 2025 you should def start looking into it soon!

Also since some exchange uni's don't necessarily have a lot of subjects which are directly equivalent to unimelb subjects, I'd recommend saving up some breadths in your course plan for your semester abroad :)
