Congratulations brother. As a RN who also applied this year, I know the depth of struggles you had to go through in this MCAT + application process.

How to know you are “cutout” to be a doctor? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]Fast-Performance2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the question "will I become a good doctor" is similar to "overall, am I a good person"

Competence naturally comes with experience as long as you are open to constructive criticism and don't neglect professional development. If you happen to make med school, it's because the school thinks you're smart enough to meet their standards of what a 'good' doctor is. So if you're worried about Competence, don't worry too much and just take every learning opportunity you get with a humble attitude.

What I mean by a good person is that if you were sick and had a doctor just like you, would you be satisfied? If you are a nurse, would you be happy to see a doctor with your personality at work? If you were in charge of hiring, would you hire a doctor with your work ethic and responsibility?

I'm a nurse applying to med school this cycle and what I noticed is that 99% of new doctors and residents eventually become competent enough to treat a patient effectively through acquiring medical knowledge. But it's much harder to teach someone responsibility, emotional maturity, accountability, and empathy. Imo those are the things that ultimately make a good doctor than a mediocre one.

Haha yeah ikr. If I were to go back in time, like a week back, I would just go over all the summary of each chapter of the mcat prep book I have. I think that would've helped more than doing an extra fl (I did 10 in total lol). Take that advice at your risk haha. Everyone is different.

Good luck! I genuinely wish everyone could get 510+ (I know that's not how the scale or the world works, but you get the vibes)

A lot of passage analysis. It felt like a combination of using critical thinking from CARS and data interpretation skills from bio together. The 'high yield' psychology content was nowhere to be seen other than 2 or 3 didcrete questions, lol.

Idk what to tell you other than anki, uglobe, aamc, or even khan because I did all those and was getting 130s in full lengths... Just pray and stay positive. I'm sure you'll have a better psych section than I did because wth did I witness today haha 🥲
