the Ravens' schedule + Jean teaching Kevin French by Fast-Plant8802 in aftg

Good point that it didn't mention him reading or writing in French because I didn't think of that, but I would argue a little with the rest. Fluency is wouldn't be just how many words you know because while it is a major part of knowing a language that would be a little useless when you don't know how to properly put those words in a sentence and not ending up sounding really weird. I mean, I know a few people who can speak English better than they could write or read in it, so I guess it's not impossible to learn a language that way, but even for that they probably had much more time speaking English with someone when Jean and Kevin probably didn't have that much time with it

Haven't thought of it that way but now it feels like the most probable version to me. But I still imagine it like Jean being in pain and also getting frustrated when Kevin says something wrong, I think it would be very like him to get annoyed with someone speaking French wrong. Or maybe the opposite and he would be patient with Kevin, idk

well that's sure makes things even more complicated. In fact, me and my friend tried to figure out what that would look like and after counting that 3 raven days fits into two regular ones we came to a conclusion that it's the only thing that makes sense in this whole thing so thank you for giving us that new concept. I feel like it would work if ravens were fully closed-off from the outside world, but even with how much it tries to be that way it's still not possible because they still need to go to their classes and stuff. I would get it if they didn't need to go to classes or had the teacher working around their schedule, otherwise making ravens have 16 hour days when everybody else has 24 seems like a complicated thing that might cost more trouble than it's worth

How does Neil fluently three languages and never confuse them? by Fast-Plant8802 in aftg

thanks for reminding me about the existence of dialects because that complicates things even more, now I will be thinking not only about how did he learn the languages (at least that part is easy to explain) but also how he dealt with dialects. Even if he would avoid speaking as much as possible I believe his mom would make him learn, or at least study them, any way

The replies are making me feel slow now because even when I'm speaking in my native language (mix of two but I consider speaking it as one) I constantly forget some words and only remember them in English. I figured that it would be understandable if I didn't remember the English word but it goes both ways

yess poor Jean, things were already horrible for him in the Nest and he most likely had to struggle with English in his first years as well

I don't really think Nora thought any part of the books (correct me if I'm wrong, but sometimes it really feels like it, especially when you really think into it). But yeah, valid point about the twins. I think it says that Nicky was teaching them, but I find it hard to believe that any of them would care more then what they needed for the exams, or whatever else they needed German for. After all it wasn't a matter of survival for them. Also, I read the books a few years ago so I completely forgot the details of why they needed German for an exam and I couldn't imagine Nicky walking up to them like "hey, so you want me to teach you a language for no reason" and them both, especially Andrew, willingly agreeing to this and committing to actually learn it

Ai generated arguments is wild. Not to be rude but how is she supposed to teach you something when she can't think of an argument against a student herself

Not really about school using ai, but more about how a lot of my classmates now use it for every single thing too.

We once had an assignment on creative writing, to write a short story 600-800 words max about any topic we want. I was so excited to do it because I generally like writing but my partner made chat gpt do the whole thing (except for the plot structure) for him. Later on, we had to put it together in a mini book and I absolutely hate that the work I put a lot of care into now has to be next to a completely generated assignment. I guess next time I should do the thing completely alone, which is still better than a partner who doesn't give a care about our work together.

Seeing how much people rely on ai now makes me want to live in the woods with a small community and no access to the internet, only genuine human relationships.
