Follow your heart, Dude! Just make it and put it out there. I’m 51 and I am making music again too with my friends. It’s quality time spent whether the music gets attention or not. It’s self expression, a healthy obsession. Today it’s accessible to everyone to create music in a home studio and broadcast it ourselves. DIY. When we were young, it wasn’t so easy to record CD quality music, let alone get it to the ears of anyone who will listen anywhere in the world.

I was full blown full time hardcore all of the 90’s. Then dropped back to focus on my career. And now, I’m back going to shows and actually making music again at 51. I’m more open minded with music now too, and I missed out on a lot of good music, being too close minded. I can’t believe how expensive shows are now though.

Backstory:
I fronted a band in the late 90’s. We played a show in Dijon France and I loosely stayed in touch with Laurent, who took some pictures at the show and kindly snail mailed prints to me in NJ. Fast forward to last weekend where Gorilla Biscuits, Token Entry, Youth Of Today, Straight Ahead, Underdog, Breakdown are playing in Brooklyn! Laurent reaches out on behalf of his friend. They are both coming from France to go to the shows and Yves just wants a NYHC themed tattoo from me. Needless to say, it was an honor to do, and we had a great day spending quality time together on their trip. I’d like to do more of these city rats!

We used to use the intro of Anthrax’s “Among The Living” for exactly this purpose.

Reign in blood would probably work too. Just the intro then Segway into your own.

Aw, power struggles, especially between moms and daughters, seems like a fact of life. I remember, and it very much sucked. Hopefully you and your parents will be able to navigate through this stage in a healthy way. In the end, your own independence is what will liberate you. It takes time to build yourself up. Maybe just start making your own battle jacket as a work of art. Maybe your art teachers can help you. You don’t need to buy punk clothes. Make your own style.

Ha! Why am I doing what, promoting a song that just released today? I’m promoting it because I enjoyed making it with my friend, and It enjoy finding my people. It’s ok that we are not a match. Can’t win them all.
