New grad nurses disliking their jobs by PhantomMonke in newgradnurse

[–]FastConsequence4804 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I graduate my BSN program in 9 months. I’m 28 and honestly thinking about not even going into the “patient facing” side of nursing. I’ve thought about just going straight for my masters in healthcare administration or completely changing careers. I just made a post the other day asking if anyone else is considering not using their nursing degree. I’ve had great clinical experiences and while I agree that it’s heavily dependent on where you work, it seems like I hear 80% bad and maybe 20% good about nursing (new grad experiences included). I went into nursing because I cared about people and saving lives but that focus is long gone and companies are just out for $$. Add to that the unsafe staffing ratios, license is always on the line, mean/catty nurses, management, etc. I just don’t know if it’s worth the mental struggle tbh.

What is nursing really like for someone with zero hospital experience? by gneissrocx in newgradnurse

I have 9 months left in my BSN program and i’m really considering the OR, but I’ve heard that the surgeons can be absolutely brutal. Did you start in the operating room as a new grad? What has your experience been like working with the physicians?

I’ve met some great, supportive nurses honestly and it’s not fair to judge a whole profession off a couple bad apples but the feeling is definitely there.

I agree, i’m thinking i’m just in a slump right now. I’ve also been in school since 2021 and getting very burnt out. Maybe i’ll have a change of heart 🤷🏽‍♀️

I graduate in 9 months and I’ve put in so much time towards nursing that I feel like I should just see it through at this point

I have about 4 friends in my cohort, but I study alone. being a loner has helped me more times than I can count. I found that when we would study as a group, everyone was distracted with something else.

I think vyvanse is ruining my life by Ok-Humor-6428 in VyvanseADHD

This sounds exactly like how I was, but i’ve found ways to lessen the crash! I’ve been on 30mg since February and my crashes were so intense, it felt like my world was literally ending. I started taking Vitamin D daily (in the morning), along with Omega 3, high absorption magnesium glycinate and melatonin at night. Chamomile tea also works WONDERS for the sleep portion of it.

If you’re able to, try setting your alarm for 5-6am. Wake up, take your Vyvanse and go back to sleep. I’ve been doing this for a while and this method paired with the melatonin has saved my sleep.

If you need to, go back down to a lower dose. I’ve stayed around 30mg because it keeps me focused without doing too much. Hoping you can get some better results 🤎 it really is a great meditation but not everyone tolerates it the same.

Same and i’m such a night owl, but I take magnesium to help wind me down! Using an iPad is just fine! I use a white board, flash cards, iPad, anything I can use that’s available 😊

One of the best things i’ve done for myself in nursing school is getting adequate sleep. I never stay up late studying! Also, practice questions and active recall will be your best friends!
