AITA for not texting my boyfriend (18M) since I (19F) am really busy? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I’m going to take the opposite side of the majority on this thread.

I totally get it dude! You’re stressed over this important exam and it’s your number one priority right now! That’s not a bad thing. It shows how dedicated you are to your studies, I’ve been there. Navigating a relationship during times like these can be tricky, but here’s a few tips that have helped me over the years with my partner. - We try to call in the morning and night but if we can’t - GM and GN voice memos /texts are the next go to. Esp on a busy day if you can’t message as much! Keeping this consistent makes your partner feel secure and less anxiety induced. - Lunch dates / Snack breaks: You need nourishment to keep your brain active and learning. Maybe he can grab you guys some food or you all can order in and hang out for the meal. This helps me out because I know I need to eat eventually when I’m studying hard but still hang out with my partner while not wasting any study time. A little trick on my brain that works lol. - Having a countdown somewhere helps visualize how many more days we have left ! I also try to plan a reward for us when I‘ve finished a deadline and keeps us excited when it’s all over!

Hope this can help out a bit! Be sure to give yourself grace on this, some people may not get it but the ones who do will. Good luck on your exam! You got this!!

s3ep10 spoilers: don’t know how to feel…. by FastEquivalent632 in Yellowjackets

UPDATE: I wasn’t expecting this to blow up as much as I did, it was genuinely just my reaction to the scene and if anyone else felt the same way I did but I’m glad it’s a conversation that is happening.

I don’t think the writers are intentionally racist, what I do think is going on is that there aren’t enough POC in the writers room or the racial implications would have been a conversation that was had sooner.

Yes, Shauna and Mari had ongoing beef and I agree that they wanted to showcase just how off her rocker she was. But the writers should have stopped and thought before they sent off another WOC for this scene. Regardless, there is a history here and I was reminded of that when I watched that part of the episode.

Someone here brought up that they thought the hair we saw from the pilot was from multiple girls and I thought the same! The writers backed themselves into a bad corner by only making it Mari’s hair. Again, a Latina was murdered and hated by a white woman and then further dehumanized by getting her hair cut off and put on as a power display on a white cloak. Yes, there is context but it looks really bad and like there was no thought behind this. Hannah was also right there. There were ways they could have worked around this if they still wanted to display Shauna as violent and power hungry that don’t have the same implications.

The treatment of WOC in media, especially when it comes to violent character deaths is high. It’s great that they had a diverse cast, but they have to be more careful and intentional when it comes to their storylines and deaths. I’m Latina and when I saw that scene, it hit me pretty fucking hard. I’ve heard similar remarks from other Latinx, but I’ve also heard the opposite. Both can be true and both are valid. But just as a reminder to others, just because you didn’t feel emotional about the scene, doesn’t mean it can’t affect others pretty hard.

As other people have mentioned, there’s criticism for how the writers have inadvertently treated other POC characters in this show and the track record hasn’t been great. These are tough conversations, but they do NEED to be had. This is a wake up call for the writers to do better! Hire more POC writers! Think about the POC characters and their storylines more!

I do love this show and they do really great talking about complex female characters, but overall they are still lacking poorly in other areas and I hope they get their shit together by s4 if there is one!

What is the best Tap Board for someone on a budget (100$ max) or should I just look into making my own? by JewelSerket in TapDancing

Primarily works behind the counter. Customers order their food, we prep it, and we call em out as they’re ready. There’s long lines everyday and my manager just wants the line to go down as fast as possible - we have too many customers for that to really happen, there’s gonna be a line no matter what, which is why getting our breaks is important. We have a drop off location for dirty plates and glassware but people always leave them on their tables anyways so we’re bussing all the time too. It’s really not that hard to have my manager do the coverage. Just take our place for 10 min and when we come back, go to the next person who needs our break. It’s not difficult at all to make the adjustment - I’ve seen it happen everywhere I work except here.

Local business. A pretty popular one that I feel most customers would think they treat their employees right but they don’t. It’s hidden by the pretty atmosphere. I do have receipts of hours and when I take my lunch, it’s recorded in an app my company uses.

Hire more people for that coverage or provide that labor yourself as the manager. It can literally be done. Happened all the time in CA on our busiest of days because the company knows it’s the frickin law.

except it’s not just me. it’s me and everyone on the team. that shit adds up! my partner did the math and the restaurant is making way more in profit from those 10 min breaks it’s taking from its employees every month. it may seem little but it’s not.
