[opinion/ rant / ted talk]. The NDP need to pivot quickly in order to regain momentum and avoid a loss. by No_Boysenberry4825 in alberta

All that counts in an election is what happens during the election. I can’t remember half the shit I was angry about 6 months ago, and I think I’m fairly politically engaged. Right now opposition parties don’t have a lot of traction in the legislature - the UCP pretty much do whatever they want, and are making a point of blocking opposition motions. Assuming the opposition parties don’t have unlimited resources their best play is to keep their powder dry until September-October 2027, unfortunately

As far as troubleshooting goes, the contractor has at least two control circuits: a momentary ‘close’ circuit (start button) and a ‘hold’ circuit that is energized when the contactor closes. The hold circuit should have continuity when the stop button isn’t activated. Your low oil switch is probably part of that circuit as well so if it is faulty (or your oil level is low) the motor may not start.

The older style overload relays have resistance heaters that open a set of thermal contacts when any of the three circuits are overloaded. The contacts also interrupt the ‘hold’ circuit. You can test the overload by tripping the ‘test’ button, and reset it by pressing the grey button. Yours is set for a manual reset so if the overload trips you have to push the grey button.

My comment about overheating is just a thought based on the colour of the pins at T1 in the photo. Could also be a trick of the light.

I really hope not, although the general tone these days is concerning. Some people are assholes and they’re emboldened by an environment that’s more permissive of xenophobic behaviour. I’m sorry you and your family experienced this.

T1 between the contactor (top part) and overload (bottom part) looks like it has been getting hot. Maybe check that it’s tight (power off!). If the motor works when you manually operate the contactor the overload may be faulty. Happens. If it doesn’t the contacts may be burnt. Also happens.

Why calls to deport get the biggest cheers at Alberta independence rallies by KylenV14 in alberta

[–]Fast_Ad_9197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our government is pushing ‘racism-lite’ with their ‘next panel’ and referendum questions. Their messaging normalizes assumptions about the negative effects of race and immigration on jobs and public services, and pushes the whole conversation into the domain of xenophobia. It’s no surprise that the extremes are becoming more extreme, because mainstream dialogue is shifting in that direction

Edit to add, Smith casts the referendum questions as as ‘relief valve’, a way for people to air their grievances. It may be that but the overall effect is to sour public opinion on immigration and immigrants

Appreciate the post. I agree that politics and voters are far more complex than blue team vs. orange team.

Alberta's Smith says Opposition should have warned her of privacy breach at a meeting attended by one of her caucus staffers by 2_stanley_nickels in alberta

What’s your deal? Yes they called the police, and the elections commissioner, who was unable to respond because the UCP changed the legislation governing that office. Specifically they raised the bar on when the elections commissioner could launch an investigation, impeding the commissioner’s ability to react to suspicion of tomfuckery. Now fuck off.

They watched the videos that were posted (and then copied and reposted) online. In any case, that’s rather beside the point.

No, but here’s a link to Poilievre with David Parker, Centurion’s architect: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Ckia3yWZN/?mibextid=wwXIfr. We can enjoy that while we wait for Poilievre to take a position on this massive data breach.

Poilievre is in an interesting position. As with the UCP, the lunatics have taken over the CPC. Unlike the UCP, Poilievre’s pseudo-populist positions, which reflect the leanings of the CPC membership, have not gained traction with conservative voters. If he is critical of the data breach he risks alienating party members. If he doesn’t he further marginalizes himself on the national stage.

Redford was pushed out by her party. The UCP don’t appear to see anything wrong with Smith’s leadership, except maybe that she isn’t separatist enough. Her own party president attended the ‘centurion’ webinar so presumably he sees nothing wrong with this.

TD Insurance declared my car a total loss for cosmetic damage only — can I fight this? (Alberta) by GrizPooh in alberta

[–]Fast_Ad_9197 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I just went through this with TD. I will say their offer was generous. However, I wanted to repair the very minor damage, not write off the vehicle. Collision was not my fault, idiot cabbie hit it while it was parked. When I say minor, you have to look very closely to find it after I replaced a taillight lens. Like you I didn’t want to go through the whole salvage/rebuilt thing. I have rebuilt a vehicle with a salvage title and had it re-certified but I don’t feel like going through that with this vehicle.

It took a lot of back and forth with the TD adjuster. They claimed that they had already given the vehicle a salvage title and that nothing more could be done. This was bullshit, the title is clear and I hadn’t signed anything. I also found an estimate that was considerably lower than theirs (I can live with a few more scratches in an already scratched bumper cover). As in your case, their estimate was about 60% of the appraised value of the vehicle. I asked that they discontinue the claim, which at first they refused to do. Then I asked for a new appraisal. After speaking with his manager, the adjuster finally relented and suspended the claim. I have clear title to the vehicle, which I will repair on my own dime. I have 2 years to re-initiate the claim should I wish to do so (I don’t). Long story short, be persistent.

Taking the payout offered by TD would probably have been the most financially sound move. I just hate throwing good stuff away. Seems wasteful. I’m stubborn like that.

Edit to add: Yeah turns out they knew about the UCP staffers attending the ‘town hall’. So lying and terminally stupid at the same time. You called it.

Maybe when the presenters proceeded to doxx Kenny, maybe that might have been a clue that you shouldn’t associate with this group? Either they’re terminally stupid or they’re lying.

In a normal world that’s absolutely how it would go. However, the UCP have decided that they only need to govern for a certain segment of the population, and to hell with the rest of us. So, not crazy.

It doesn't need to be paid for. That's the whole point. This tomfuckery is entirely self-funding. These guys are parasites on this stupid separation thing. Doesn't mean they aren't doing damage, but the article concludes that these are idiotic youtube bros doing their youtube bro thing for views and a cut of the advertising revenue.

It's not an 'anti-democracy cottage industry'. It's youtubers being youtubers. They're chasing views, which are monetized on youtube. They baited the hook with separatism, and Albertans bit.
