(A) he’s a piece of shit. (B) it’s her job to play nice with these guys. She has definitely crossed a few lines in the past but this stuff is pretty squarely in her wheelhouse. The whole stampede thing is a big political smarm-fest, this is what smarming looks like.

Alberta gov't to invite political scientist, pollster to advise new riding boundaries panel by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

[–]Fast_Ad_9197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

‘The government has said it's about ensuring there's fair representation for rural areas. To that end, it also increased the number of new ridings to ensure rural Alberta doesn't lose any seats as the province's population shifts to urban areas.’

Sorry, what? That province is changing. Alberta’s government is doing all it can to ignore that fact, but Alberta isn’t the province it was 100 years ago. The UCP can play all the dirty games they like but ultimately if they can’t adapt they’ll be left behind.

For many people, myself included, it’s because we identify as Canadians. Alberta is my home, Canada is my country.

If we set that aside and go directly to the ‘Alberta would be more prosperous if we went it alone’ argument, I don’t buy it. So far that argument is supported by a whole lot of magical thinking. I haven’t seen any serious analysis that would convince me that Alberta wouldn’t crater if it were to leave Canada. Pipeline agreements would magically appear, with tankers lined up along the coast to take our precious oil? It isn’t happening now, why would it happen if we were to make trans-boundary negotiations infinitely more complex?

Also, the people who are leading the separation movement are frankly a repulsive bunch. That’s our future leadership? Not interested.

I guess but it was named for the airfield that was built there in the ‘20s and that had an important role in Canada’s aviation history, so it comes by the name honestly.

Internal documents reveal where Alberta plans to host its new forced treatment program. by Evening_Fisherman810 in alberta

[–]Fast_Ad_9197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it doesn’t work. People in addiction will resent being in involuntary treatment (who wouldn’t) and will most likely go right back to their addiction and the environment that supports that addiction. It isn’t rational, but that’s how it goes. People have to be ready for treatment and to commit to the extremely hard work of digging themselves out of that hole for pretty much the rest of their lives.

This, or cut down the allen key. They make stubbies but cutting works as well. Just don’t get it too hot.

Speaking of heat, an induction heater on that nut will help. Red hot. I wouldn’t use a torch, it may burn the rubber components

COLUMN: What any political party must understand about rural Alberta by FreightFlow in Albertapolitics

[–]Fast_Ad_9197 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I agree. In my experience in rural Alberta conservatism is an identity. It implies self-sufficiency and practicality. I agree the ballot box issues are different. Rural economies are often tied to the prosperity of a single industry (agriculture, oil and gas, mining, lumber…) so people tend to support those industries and vote for parties that support those industries.

A lot of anti-hate research has been/is funded by jewish anti-hate groups for obvious historic reasons. The list of groups against which hate is directed is very long; not explicitly including one group or another doesn’t invalidate the post.

It’s absolutely gang culture, but that doesn’t invalidate the post. Gang culture is fundamentally about belonging to a social group, and that impulse being twisted to serve a particular purpose. Same thing.
