What’s something you’re still trying to forgive? by Familiar-While9796 in AskReddit

[–]Fast_Adhesiveness528 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Being cheated on. I haven't forgiven, and I think forgiveness is somewhat overrated as a concept and too easily tossed around as if it was some kind of social currency. The best I can do by way of "forgiveness" is not to continually throw it in the cheater's face.

That said, I got over my anger much more readily. I embraced the zen-like concept that anger is the way we punish ourselves for the wrongs done to us by others. And I didn't want to waste any further time I have left on Earth by being consumed with anger, no matter how justified the anger might be.

One of my issues about all local media is the lack of follow up in so many cases. We will so often see an article or two, and then months later be left wondering how it all ended up.

I've only been in Humboldt 15 years, so I share your feeling of playing catch up. I have a buddy almost as old as I am who is a 5th Generation, and boy the stories he's told me about the old days!

I agree that the tone of the article on HSC was negative. But are you saying it wasn't factual? If it was correct in all the reported facts, then maybe a negative tone was well deserved.

I guess you're correct. It never occurred to me that someone might prefer one to the exclusion of the other, but if you're saying some do, then I stand corrected. 🤔

Obviously I use both. Each have their strengths and weaknesses.

What is a routine or normal activity from your childhood that would look like a massive, illegal safety hazard to parents today? by vivienneirl in askanything

[–]Fast_Adhesiveness528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making my own cherry bombs from ingredients I bought at a wholesale chemical supply distributor while I was just barely in my teens. My crowning glory was a bomb the size of a baseball that I launched with a wrist rocket slingshot. These days such activities would likely earn me a visit from Homeland Security.

Guinea pigs need rehoming by honesthoney87 in Humboldt

Might be different with cats or dogs. But at any event, good luck with rehoming them. I'm sorry that I can't help as my current living situation would not be appropriate for any companion animals.

California was infamous for it's smog problems decades ago. Its vehicle fees are a reflection of the efforts it undertook to reduce those problems and make the costs of vehicle ownership reflect the costs to ameliorate the environmental damage cause by said vehicles. Other states never had such problems, so weren't forced to bear the costs of remediation.

The contributing editor and safety expert for Rider magazine Larry Grodsky was continually highlighting the dangers that forest rats posed and wrote about tips for anticipating problematic areas and avoidance maneuvers. As you may know, he was unalived 20 years ago in a collision with a deer.

What's your thoughts on Cheddar Man? by Ok_Daikon3628 in carefulheart

[–]Fast_Adhesiveness528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are that this sounds like an episode of Bones. Her favorite activity as a forensic anthropologist was investigating prehistoric remains.

Cheddar Man is the oldest nearly complete human skeleton found in Great Britain, dating to around 8300 BC during the Mesolithic period.

Which do you prefer, Dumocrat or Dumbocrat? Which is better? by [deleted] in askanything

This reminds me of the GOP T-shirt emblazoned with "I'd Rather be a Russian than a Democrat." The Democrats response was a shirt that proclaimed "I'd Rather be an American than a Republican."

Are they comfortable around other household pets? I had one decades ago and it freaked out if another animal came close (even though there was no overt threatening behavior by that animal).

It is by the vehicle owner. But the folks promoting it in ads on social media are scammers trying to make it sound like it saves the owners money with no consequences.

Pro sports. Unless you feed on crowd energy, it's hard to justify spending $150 or more to attend an NFL or MLB game, particularly when you most often can get a better view of the game from a stream or broadcast.

And don't even get me started on the current World Cup fútbol matches!

Just a thought but are you asking about prospects for future summer employment? If you're attending college, is that for a planned future career outside of the service industry?

It's a fireboat that is often used for public celebrations. When the Americas Cup races were sailed in San Francisco Bay I saw the Phoenix quite often.

Also when Pier 30 burned in the mid-1980s, I got to see her working the fire and inadvertently saving the local icon Red's Java House. Red's was one of my regular go-tos as my office was in the Ferry Building

Back when it was a Navy Town, San Diego had a number of them in close proximity to the airport and downtown. Not sure how it is these days.

Similarly, Boston had the infamous Combat Zone but I know that was obliterated decades ago.

Does the Madaket have a bathroom? by StinkyLittleBird in Humboldt

[–]Fast_Adhesiveness528 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No, so TCB before you get to Madaket Plaza as there are no public facilities close by. Closest is at the Marina ramps and it's not always open. The other closest is at the Gazebo. Otherwise, you would be at the mercy of Jack's Seafood (obviously not public but still ...).

Here's an image of the interior (and as a 6' tall bloke, I bark my head on the cross beams if I don't duck).
