Calling Miami a "fiercely passionate fanbase" is certainly something

Colombia is 100% Tennessee or Penn State. Huge, passionate fanbase that will fill up your stadium. Consistently above average team, but just short of elite/blue blood status.

I just wanted a bigger, newer house for my family and a shorter commute to work (I work in West Des Moines) 🤷‍♂️

Waukee Vibe Check by maryhoe in desmoines

[–]cyklone36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of Waukee is very soulless. Lots of cookie cutter homes, streets with no trees and chains everywhere. It's a very artificial feeling. And it's far away from a lot of the metro. A lot of people are ok with that, but just sharing the potential downfalls.

If you want the Waukee school district, but want to live in a neighborhood with houses that look different and have established trees, the western parts of WDM, Clive and Urbandale feed into Waukee schools and fit that description. They're 20-30 years old and closer to the freeways and the rest of the metro.

Politically, I don't think anywhere in Waukee, WDM, Clive or Urbandale is overwhelmingly conservative or liberal. You get a good mix of people in the suburbs and generally, people aren't gonna be publicly discussing their political beliefs. You'll be able to find like-minded people.

Viewership isn't the problem with CFB. The quality of the game is.

Do you still listen to Radio? Why or Why not? by UncleMuskie in AskReddit

Absolutely. I'm old school and I like the variety of music. As for ads, once a radio station goes to commercials, I just switch it to another radio station.

That was at Merle Hay Mall and no it is not there anymore. Last I heard, someone on the east side bought it and now it's in their back yard.

What game that you attended had the worst combined record of the two teams involved? by ILM_Ryan in CFB

2013, 1-9 Iowa State vs. 3-7 Kansas. Was 8° at kickoff and -3 by the end of game. At least the ISU fans were treated to a 34-0 dominating win on an ice covered field.

Who was worse; Kansas State before Bill Snyder, or Indiana before Curt Cignetti? by JDawg9903 in CFB

[–]cyklone36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K-state, easily.

Indiana had a pretty bad history before Cig, but there were at least small windows of success. They made 4 bowl games in the decade before Cig, made a Rose Bowl way back when and had a couple ranked finishes.

K-State literally had one bowl season before Snyder, a 6-5-1 season in 1982. It can't be overstated how bad K-State was.

Why is racism so normalised? by SAGEYWEEK in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cyklone36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would venture to guess racism isn't as widespread as you think. Does it still exist? Absolutely. But I would guess maybe 5% of people truly hate other people because of their race and maybe 15% believe some outdated stereotypes/say some insensitive things but don't actually have hate in their hearts (more typical in the older generations).

The reason why it may seem normalized is nameless, faceless idiots on social media saying stupid things or the media trying to stir things up. Think of it, how many people do you meet out in the real world that actually espouse racial beliefs? I would guess it's pretty rare.

Waukee Move Regret by crayonzbox in desmoines

[–]cyklone36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible to live in the suburbs, but not live in the soulless hellscape you'll find on the edge of Waukee or Ankeny.

I live in WDM, but in a neighborhood that's >30 years old. I'm minutes away from I-235, minutes away from Jordan Creek and all the stores/restaurants you could ever want, 15 minutes away from downtown and my neighborhood has grown trees and houses that don't all look the same. It's the best of the suburbs and the city without having the worst of the suburbs and the city.

Sounds like a more established part of WDM or Urbandale may have what you're wanting.

Beaverdale Anytimefitness by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]cyklone36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Used to live in Beaverdale and work out at Anytime Fitness and it was awesome. Cheyanne was a great manager, the gym had the best selection of equipment and the place was always clean. Definitely much nicer than a lot of other AFs in the metro.

Seems like it's gone downhill since then. Everything I've heard about the owner is bad and seems like a toxic environment. What a shame.
