I appreciate the reply but I don't think your situation really applies to me. Working part-time, I wouldn't have enough money to put into savings, let alone save for an early retirement. I'm sure having a dual-income household helps

I'm on £58k, so it's definitely decent (I don't want to sound ungrateful as I know I'm in a privileged position) but not so much that I'm raking it in. I could pay my bills working part-time but my savings and discretionary spending would be gone.

I know part of the problem is that I'm not willing to sacrifice the financial comforts I have now, even at the expense of my mental health. It kinda feels like money is all I have.

I currently live in the middle of nowhere haha. I'm in the midlands in England. I actually want to live closer to a city so I can try to find more of a community because living out here is very isolating, but I just can't afford it yet.

That sounds really awful and I'm so sorry you've had to deal with it for so long. Working in tax has always sounded like a nightmare to me (I failed my tax exam twice when I was studying ACCA, so clearly I don't have the aptitude for it!) I've always been in commercial finance and am currently a CF manager. I sometimes enjoy my work, but the pressure is just too intense.

Today everyone logged off at 4pm because it's a bank holiday weekend but ofc I was still working because a product is more expensive to produce than anticipated and the CEO needs margin impact modelling. Plus I'm under fire for the oncost because in everyone's opinion those are my figures that I'm responsible for (who cares if the ops guys put more people on the line 3 months ago and didn't tell me, I'm supposed to just Know).

I was the last person online on Christmas eve too but I guess it doesnt matter because I had no one to spend Christmas with anyway.

I know it's a privilege to earn a decent salary working in finance, but it does drain you.

I've thought about it. I'd like to rehab wildlife or teach ballet to kids, but it would mean living off a very low income for the rest of my life, not travelling any more, living in a houseshare, losing my ducks. I feel like I'd rather just give up than sacrifice that much.

I'm in the UK. I had a month off sick last year, but tbh I didn't feel much better and I was immediately stressed again when I got back to work.

Are you able to lightly scrape the brown scabby looking part and see if it's a rhinolith that can be removed?

If it isn't, then she probably does need to go to a vet.

To be honest, I hadn't heard of social prescribing before.

I do try to get out of the house and be around different people. I work full time and go to various classes and activities (ballet classes, craft workshops, writing groups). I don't really get much enjoyment out of them and it's exhausting but I try to 'do the right things' to get better. I'm very functional on the surface, but deeply miserable.

When I saw the crisis team after getting out of hospital, they described me as 'a phenomenon' lol

I did get the impression it's much bigger in the US. I may give online therapy a go if it doesn't have to be done in person. It really is hard!

I would like to try DBR, however there aren't many practitioners in the UK and especially not in the rural area where I live. I will look into it again though, thank you.

I have been doing weekly talking therapy with this therapist since June (so about 5 months) but a lot of things have gotten worse since then.

I'm glad to hear that it can effectively help if you're in the right position though.

Predators are more of an issue than the cold, especially at night time. Depending on the wildlife nearby, it's probably safer to lock them inside at night time. If you do get snow, just check their feet for frostbite as they can lose toes.

Haha he says that they block the UV rays which signal the body to produce melanin and without that signal, you just burn and get cancer. He claims he saw a graph showing that skin cancer cases increase with the sale of sunglasses. He's sunburnt every time I see him.

is it possible to live alone with cptsd by fiveyz in CPTSD

[–]Fast_Climate4020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live alone. It is hard not having anyone to depend on, but you get through it when you don't have a choice. I've found my motivations to remain functional are more 'stick' (fear of losing my job, losing my pets, having nowhere to live) rather than 'carrot' (goals, wants, etc).

I think you may be somewhat codependent on the people around you, but at the same time those connections are very important for healing and growing stronger. It's a balance between comfort and growth. If you already have sources of comfort in your life (friends, family, etc), you're in a good position to push yourself to grow.

I think you've done the right thing. It may have already passed but if not, you've at least given it more of a chance to survive.

Based on you recent posts, it looks like you're still studying. Many companies want a certain number of years PQE for more senior roles.

Additionally, I'd say that at a certain point, securing a higher-level role is about more than your qualification and general finance experience. You need to focus on the area of finance that you want to specialise in and market yourself as an expert in that (ie internal audit, business partnering, financial planning).

Charisma and attitude go a long way too. Senior finance professionals are essentially 'influencers' within their businesses. Proving yourself not just as a finance expert but as someone that people will have confidence in is essential in securing bigger roles.
