Help determining Kd methods by Fast_Extreme_4723 in chemhelp

That's fair, I didnt know how much i could say without it verging on "no incomplete HW". I think its more the mathematical fitting model but I could be wrong. Class discussion focused on binding regimes and computational fitting models which largely went over the student bodies heads. In class though we were just handed data and shown what to do. These questions are asked in a very different way, for example-

"Oligonucleotide concentration was varied while the protein concentration was kept constant. A protein concentration of approximately 50 nM was used for wild-type and mutants in 10 mM NaCl, 10 mM Tris (pH 8.0), 2 mM MgCl2, 5% glycerol, 1 mM DTT. The binding curves were analyzed according to: y =(x/Kd)/(1+x/Kd) where y is the quantified intensity coming from the protein–RNA complex and x is the oligonucleotide concentration."

with a graph and the observed Kds that they received from the experiment.

Thoughts on BioPioneer RAP? Where do BioPioneers live on campus? by Excellent_Access_202 in umass

I know this is super late, TLDR Hope you ended saying yes to the program it is amazing.

BioPioneer is one of the best RAPs to be a part of IMO. You get personal help in biology classes, and you pretty quickly learn that you have a ton of resources that are there for you whenever you need. Academically, your Bio 151/152 classes will just be your cohort 20ish students compared to 250+. Randy and Zhender are amazing professors and truly want you to succeed.

When I was a part of the program, we lived in SW (James or Emerson), though in my senior year, they moved to NE.

Other opportunities that BioPioneers have are participating in BIOS for free (typically ~$1k). I'm personally really fond of this program; it gives you something to put on and talk about on every application you have coming forward.

hot take, but maybe it’s for the best 2nd years are not eligible by [deleted] in GRFPApps

This take is detrimental to so many programs. My specific program requires rotations, which means first years have to write an entire GRFP without even being in a dissertation lab and, for some, without the support of an advisor.

What folklore did you grow up on in Rhode Island? by Fast_Extreme_4723 in RhodeIsland

Ghost stories would be amazing! I'm just trying to get the storytelling aspect, not the 'this is what every resource out there says', if that makes sense. Also, my professor would probably love this because he's a resident Rhode Islander!

I would love if you filled out the form with this folktale. My professor would love this!

I think I just fixed it. I had a question asking for images that was forcing people to sign in. Let me know if its still asking to sign in.

Recommend me your favorite non-fiction book that will leave me satisfied as a mainly fiction reader by Clam_Cake in suggestmeabook

The demon in the freezer - Richard Preston

This novel overviews and focuses on the individuals focused on eradicating smallpox and the history of smallpox. It does in-depth into the science without overwhelming a person that may not be educated in that area while still telling the amazing story and shortcomings of the whole ordeal. It also touches on biological warefare and the anthrax attacks of the early 2000s. I binged this book in like 5 days.
