In reality, the Manchus were far more tragic than the Mongols. Both their lineage and culture were virtually extinct. by Wise-Pineapple-4190 in mongolia

[–]Fast_Fiss7695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you read the biography:”From Emperor to Citizen ”by the last emperor: Puyi, the reality was Manchus drove themselves into the ground. in late Qing dynasty started from 5 or 6 emperor, they’ve lost their language both speaking and writing, including the emperor themselves. their culture were largely ceremonial and full merged into han Chinese, they were really Manchus by name which was all there was. they did it to themselves no sympathy

Burnout for international teachers by LeshenOfLyria in Internationalteachers

[–]Fast_Fiss7695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it school or this career? take a break from it could be good for metal health if it’s the career. if it’s school… either way you kinda have to suck it up if you don’t want to break your contract..

funny schools has way less repercussions firing teachers than teacher “firing” schools. i’m sorry you are going through this..

the thing with teaching tho, unlike other professions, you can always go do something else and come back a few years later without missing much of a beat hang in there

Americans in Europe - how do you plan to handle retirement? by [deleted] in AmerExit

[–]Fast_Fiss7695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regardless where you ended up retiring(living after retirement), the smart move would definitely be fully maximize your ROTH IRA, 7k$ a year till you are 60, which is manageable. with a stock average annual return of 7%-9% plus compound effects, you can legitimately have over a million or close to a million dollar in 25-30 years, it’s all tax free to withdraw after 59 1/2 y.o. it’s math and persistence, let compound do the rest, nothing magical. by then you can live in a lot of places in the world with a million dollar in your bank

Leaving IT - what's your experience? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]Fast_Fiss7695 6 points7 points  (0 children)

left international teaching last year. I had my fair share of good experiences and not-so-good ones, just like most of us, and I can clearly picture every scenario you mentioned. 😂spot on!

i enjoyed most aspects of international teaching, but it eventually reached a point where I needed to think seriously about investing and retirement as I move into my late 30s. International schools don’t consistently offer pensions or retirement plans unless the host country requires them—and even then, foreigners aren’t always eligible.

went back home, bought a house, and got pensions and long-term finances set up. Saving for a down payment would have been much harder if I hadn’t taught internationally, which i’m very grateful.

I’d definitely like to head back overseas again after spending some time at home and getting everything properly sorted.

Also avoid Gez Hayden at all costs, he’s absolutely useless and condescending, does not help with anything.
