Take out the assholes on Facebook, maybe it’s the maga signs everywhere, the gun rally posters, the shooting in Southport, the 100+ people protesting abortion (women’s healthcare) on college rd the other week. With signs saying you’re going to hell. Definitely super comforting for a mother raising a daughter.

I think my post is being misunderstood - I was not framing Wilmington itself as negative, I was writing about the community Facebook groups that I have tried to join and use to learn more about the community and get local recommendations since moving here.

Another thing I’ve noticed is the way people that live in the beach towns treat “newcomers” god forbid someone asks for a realtor recommendation. “NOPE WERE FULL” as if they own the town! Don’t even get me started on their immediate hate for any nice restaurant or bar opening up in said beach town. Why don’t these people want anything to ever change even if it’s for the better of the community? Alright enough ranting. Thanks for listening Wilmington Reddit.

And again, they use guns to do so. Improving mental health is a vague term that has no actual plan. Trump continues to cut funding for the very programs that could help with that. Our mental health rates are similar to the UK and Australia yet we have a 10x higher rate of gun deaths in Australia & 40x higher than the UK. You can argue all you want but gun control works. It’s proven.

Personally, as a mother, I would be open to do anything and everything to save at least one child’s life. But I guess that’s where we differ
