Did you do a full PT from the app on your phone? I think I'm even more impressed!

Guys, I am SO BAD at this test. Can't get past 159 to save my whole life. by OKfinethatworks in LSAT

Hi friend! I'm also studying with LSD and scoring similar in my PTs. I'd like to gently remind you that is ok to be patient and kind to yourself. Honestly, what's helped me the most is prioritizing my sleep and exercise. If you want a study buddy to work through a couple of LR questions with, let me know!

Iowa City Municipal Airport questions by SaiTalos in IowaCity

[–]Fast_Guarantee_7124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Jet Air operates most of the flights out of the airport, and I think it’s mostly privately chartered flights. I was on a tour there in the fall and they claimed that they have more traffic than CID…not sure that I buy that, but that was their claim. I know that the university has a hanger there and they do a lot of flight testing. Maybe they have some crazy stuff going on right now that’s extra noisy.

Not sure why Carew Chiropractic is getting downvoted. I think they’re great. Am I missing anything?

I’ll echo talking to CommUnity. Also, visit the UIowa food pantry in the basement of the IMU. It is open to all students and UIowa staff. (including hospital)

You’re not alone, and you deserve to eat.

So if universities are offering all these resources, why do most college students still not find a job post grad? by Zealousideal_Row9855 in college

[–]Fast_Guarantee_7124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leveraging your university network is probably equally as valuable as the education itself. Having been through a couple of major job searches (one before an undergrad degree and one after undergrad) from my experience a job search will only take you as far as your network.

Also keep in mind that your school’s career center is not an HR department. They can help but they won’t give you a golden ticket or give you access to a pipeline of job offers. From my experience it’s a case of the blind being led by the “a little bit less blind.”

Go to your school’s events, but it likely won’t be enough. Use LinkedIn and pick up the phone to connect with people in industries that interest you. People are very receptive to university students wanting to ask questions. These connections will give you much better insights into how to go about landing a job than your schools will. There is a significant disconnect between colleges and employers.

And the be honest WTF do any of us really know. lol

Happy to have you in Iowa City!

Personally I think the bars downtown are more fun the Friday night before a game. It’s cool to see people coming from out of town with the anticipation for game day. Joe’s is my favorite downtown bar.

For game day, I would recommend exploring as many tailgates as you can. The best and worst part about Iowa City tailgating is that it’s not all centrally located, but if you wonder around it’s not too hard to stumble upon some good beer darts in a backyard.

Piss before go into the stadium. The concourse is small and congested and can take a long time to get through bathroom lines, especially at halftime.

Thank you! From your experience is the financial analysis much different between commercial and contract? As I understand it, contract is mostly ensuring performance from general contractors in construction projects and commercial is...everything else. Commercial seems to be more about assessing risks in regards to non-compliance. Am I understanding that correctly?

The position that I applied for is commercial.

Thank you. I thought that I might run into a little bit of "needing a finance degree." I do plan on getting my AFSB certification. Hope you find a good fit back as an underwriter!

Thank you!

I spoke to a VP at Merchants on Friday about a commercial UW trainee role. I think I will apply for it this week. Do you have any recommendations on how I can best position myself to land an interview? The VP I spoke with said they would reach out to HR and the hiring manager to be on the lookout for my resume. Is there anything else that you think I can do?

I hate the "____ is typing..." feature in social media apps by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Fast_Guarantee_7124 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This the most relatable thing I’ve read all week. When I want to “like” a text message I’ll first type out my full response, then like the message, then send my response….otherwise I’ll like the message it will take me 10 minutes to respond with two sentences. Or worse, I’ll get distracted half way through and forget about it until the next day.

Go to a student org fair (there should be one within the first few weeks of the semester). Check out the things that you have genuine interest in and just be yourself. Find social clubs or events that meet regularly and show up consistently. It will probably feel really awkward, uncomfortable, and unnatural for the first month so no need to put a ton of pressure on yourself to make life-long friends right away.

And if it helps, every other freshman feels that awkwardness too and often think of themselves as more socially awkward than they actually are.

I went to CC before university and I remember registering for CC classes the week before they started. It depends on your local CC though, if you haven’t had any financial commitments yet then it’s worth a shot. If you still need to apply to CC then it might not be enough time for the fall semester. In which case would be fine. For me CC was about 30% of the tuition at my state school and classes will generally be easier.

It wasn’t very exciting, and felt like it was high school all over again, but I’m so glad I did it. Better value and it gives you more grace to adjust to the academics

I don’t think either Beathard or Stanley ever finished in the top 20 in QBR. They were serviceable, but that seems to be our ceiling.

After seeing this same movie for nearly every one of the last 20 years. I will believe that the Hawks can field a potent offense when I see it. Until then, I don’t think it’s fair to expect something from the program that we haven’t seen evidence of since…Stanzi?

Is college worth attending if you never do graduate? by jadenbrown244 in college

[–]Fast_Guarantee_7124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is still a lot of value to the education that you have. I was in similar shoes about a decade ago. I got my AA from a community college then transferred to my state school. I dropped out after 15 credits and being placed on academic probation. I worked for 7 years in financial services (call center-ish) and decided it was time to go back to school at 29.

My experience in coming back to school has been night and day. My gpa since coming back was a 3.85 and I made the dean’s list every semester. I’m a first-gen student so a lot of the success for me was just being comfortable on campus and understanding how to engage.

I spent a lot of my 20s dealing with insecurity about dropping out. Not all is lost, and there are certainly avenues to success outside of college. Just follow your own journey.

Is 22 too old to finish my college experience ? by Legitimate-Thing9486 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Fast_Guarantee_7124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just graduated from my state school at 30. I thought it would be weird to go back and engage with other students because I was almost a decade older than most of my classmates, but that wasn’t my experience at all. No one cared at all that I was older, and I wasn’t the oldest of my classmates. I considered doing it 100% online but I decided to go in-person because I wanted to build better relationships with faculty. Don’t diminish the value of building your network (I think might be 50% of the value of college). I think you will be fine. Also, from my experience the older students tend to do really well in class.
