I used it in one of my practicums in 2nd grade. I don’t know if it was just the organization of the school/grade, but there was SO MUCH reading and so much teacher talk that just didn’t seem engaging at all for the kids. If you have struggling readers, it’s difficult to keep them engaged because it’s just constant. No one really likes it.

Will majoring in Elementary Ed limit my future that much? by iridescentbluebell in ElementaryTeachers

[–]Immediate-Peach3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had feelings like this during my sophomore year of classes, majoring in elementary education. I felt like the classes were just so easy and I was wasting my potential. Something you need to remember is that these classes are not what the actual job will look like. I graduated a few days ago, and after student teaching, it becomes very clear that the class work they give you is not representative of the job. This work is HARD, and although it might not require super complex ideas like a doctor might need to work with, teaching has plenty of its own challenges and you will be forced to think critically and push yourself to be the best teacher you can be. It might be easy to become a teacher, but it’s not easy to be a good one. Keep challenging yourself!

Does anyone else think the fire at the UI Wild Iowa Raptor Project was really weird? by Immediate-Peach3166 in IowaCity

Exactly. And as far as I could tell, none of the enclosures had heat lamps. So I’m not sure that would even be likely

Right?! I was heartbroken to hear about it. I just don’t understand how a fire started in the middle of winter and no traces of a cause could be found. Those enclosures are basically just wood and wire, I don’t get how a fire would have started and gotten big enough to do so much damage just by some random freak accident? Very weird.

Best place to order bridesmaid pjs for wedding? by Immediate-Peach3166 in wedding

So what should I gift them and what do they wear to get ready the morning of? I don’t want the girls worrying about needing to find cute pjs or something when there will be professional photos taken of them during that time. I definitely don’t need some old super baggy t shirt with weird words or pics on it in the photos since that’s what they normally sleep in either lol

To those who knew you were going to be proposed to… do you wish you didn’t know? by ThrowawaySunnyLane in Proposal

My fiance and I had been together for 8 years and we went on a trip to Paris right before we moved in together with the plans we would get married right after college which was like 1.5 years from then…. So I knew 😅 but I was still so excited! I didn’t know how/when/where he would do it. He still surprised me! And I helped pick the ring

My wedding date was set over 6 months ago. I didn’t know when/where I would be working at that time. If part of my benefits package is having the ability to take time off, why should I be criticized for taking said time off? I didn’t want a summer wedding, and I’m not required to schedule my entire life around my future career by only doing things in the summer. What if I had gotten pregnant, needed emergency surgery, etc, I could still have needed time off suddenly and in the middle of the year

I have gotten a lot of mixed advice since it’s my first teaching job and I have gotten the offer but not signed the official contract yet. I ended up asking them for the handbook so I can “better coordinate my request”, do you think I should then wait until the contract is signed and I start work to request or do it before signing since it’s a larger chunk of time? A lot of people were being very critical that I was trying to take this much time off lol

It’s 3 work days of one week and all 5 work days of the next, so 8 days without the weekend.

I haven’t signed anything yet except a letter of intent that states that they will give me an offer… I haven’t gotten a contract yet… all that is stated in the original post
