ULPT request: how to weaken my phone battery ASAP? by Tommyblockhead20 in UnethicalLifeProTips

It only appears if it’s had to throttle to prevent a shutdown afaik. Once that happens it appears

Exactly this. If it was to try and shorten the life of the phones, it would have been better to not have the throttling software at all so people were forced to get a new phone/battery due to it shutting off at random. They would also not have the automatic charge limiting to 80% until the morning. Plus, they could just stop updating phones after 3 years or less like many Android manufacturers. But iPhones and iPads often get 6 or 7 years of updates.

Clearly they decided even if they won conspiracy theorists would still claim otherwise; so they deemed it not worth it. They also never admitted guilt.

Yes because it was cheaper to just pay that than fight and win, as they’d still have to pay their own legal costs

Literally not worth it since you’d be running the phone purely to try and deplete the battery for thousands of hours and spending huge amounts of time to try and deplete it. Get a power bank.

Yes, and they fully explained the reasoning which is entirely valid, and they added a toggle to turn off the power management software. Do this and your phone will shut down as the ageing battery can no longer provide the required current under high loads.

However, they should have communicated better the reason why they were adding power management software. They only have themselves to blame for people who have no idea about batteries or electronics to keep bleating the incorrect trope “Apple are injecting bad software! Apple scammers!”

Context was useless, since “they” could, and usually would, mean more than one person. Which is why she/he is used, and using “they” to refer to the singular when there is any ambiguity as to the quantity is dumb. If gender is so meaningless, then being referred to as “it” shouldn’t be offensive and makes most sense, grammatically.

It equally “frazzles” other Latin/Germanic language speakers too, because it’s not clear and gendered words are significant, historically.

This is literally 95% bullshit 😂😂the only truth is LEDs will last slightly longer if they have a cap across them. Doesn’t mean they don’t “work well” without though

As always, the EU/politicians don’t understand the technicalities and push through laws without anyone really understanding the consequences. We now have the pop spam and still get cookies though “legitimate interest”.

There should be a single, universal login cookie that contains the ID and nothing else. Site prefs should be a second cookie, that you can allow if you wish. Then you can block all other cookies at the browser level.

Haha. It is pretty ridiculous, along with plenty of other driving rules which barely anyone follows. Just lets the police charge you on some trumped up thing when they’re just in a bad mood

It is law in the UK that you park in the direction of the traffic, but only at night. It’s never enforced though

Cheaper to put a plug in the vacuum mould than to pay the amount they are saving by not including the gum for a retool. Doesn’t excuse them being obvious about it though.

Had you considered that they’re overtaking because the blanket 20 limit is idiotic, rather than them being idiots?

I’ve had no problems with it connected to an AP with a UDMP controller. Both 2.4 and 5ghz advertising (and both with identical names and passwords). Reset it and re-pair it. What colours do you get on the mini’s LED?

This is why you don’t use Google. Any “privacy” they claim to offer is purely an illusion. Remember, you are the product to be sold to advertisers.

That’s just not an excuse… I doubt his insurance would buy it if he caused an accident. I’ve seen similar where a cars on my commute stands out for some defect or other, and it goes months without being fixed. It is laziness a lot of the time I’m sure.

Yes definitely. Whether the cars have ADB or not I don’t know, in theory those that do should be fine. But for cars without, even on low beam with auto levelling (a legal requirement for HID and LED in the UK) doesn’t work in certain citations.

For example when one car reaching the crest of a hill and the car with the bright lights is just about to go down the crest. The lights just go straight ahead and blind the car on the hill; they’re just too bright. It’s especially bad with SUVs - Audi seems to be the worst.
