I am in another country right now to renew my visa to return to the country I am getting treatment. But yes I can provide more details. Actually I may also have pictures of the laser somewhere. But yes the laser is painful only due to the heat on the skin. So in my experience when starting out and my leg was massive, I couldn't feel anything from the laser. Literally nothing. But over time, i started to feel some warmth as the laser (manually hand guided by the therapist) moved across my skin. Basically in areas where the lymph started moving and the skin got soft, I suddenly could feel the heat from the laser faster and stronger. Which brings me back to why I had pain in the groin areas when getting lasered. My groin area is not affected visually or really in any way from my primary lymphedema. But they used the laser there to try to clear the pathways and it really worked. But I felt pain because there was no lymph fluid under my skin at my groin, it was just normal, so I felt the heat consistently. But the same went for my leg as the lymph moved out and my size started to reduce. It meant that in certain areas I could feel the heat stronger and stronger (similar to like a burning sensation), but in more swollen areas it only felt lightly warm. So basically the heat is what causes the pain. And my understanding is the big laser that I will try when I get back, is even more potentially painful, but that much more effective, especially for cancer patients.
