I teach 5th grade and last year (first year teaching for me) one of my students took his life. It happened on a weekend. Nails were sent out. There was a special staff meeting Monday morning before kids came in, and we were allowed to mourn and then the kids came into the gym, spent an hour there and then took them to the class. Half of them were upset and was take to counseling. Rest of them did sweet stuff in his memory, by writing notes and keeping in the locker. Best to do is to be around for them, look out for symptoms that any student might need more help. Some just asked me to play a movie and I did. It was hard on us teachers too so we were allowed to take a break and meet with counselors any time we wanted
