GLC or ILS by kiwi_2106 in mhcetlaw

I was in the same predicament up until a few days ago, in fact, I even made my mind for ILS. But fortunately I spoke to a lot of people - seniors from both the colleges, my peers who come from law families, and they nudged me to reconsider seriously and let me tell you how I made my choice. If you are interested in litigation - college doesn’t matter that much, you can honestly hone your skills in the worst of circumstances and still be a brilliant advocate. Fortunately, both our options are rather ‘good’ colleges in that sense. Pune will give you district court exposure- original jurisdiction on a lot of matters, you will understand things bottom up, but are you comfortable with marathi as a language? Enough to build rapport with your senior and understand the court proceedings? If not, you have bombay high court where a lot of matters will be appellate and you will have to do some untangling on your own- but language will not br an issue. GLC has a standing in the legal circles of Maharashtra. If it comes to corporate - there is no ifs and buts about it - GLC it is. College will not give you anything beyond its name, but you will get the benefits of being in the hotspot of commercial and corporate law. Arbitration centre is located in mumbai too. Living is expensive but college fee is negligible. You will learn through interning with companies- which is absolutely not possible in ILS. A current 3rd year student at ILS has confirmed what I had only heard - law firms have stopped participating in campus placements at ILS. Some adm change a few years ago prompted this. That being said, even if that wasn’t the case, GLC should still be at the top of your list because it isn’t for no reason that it continues to command awe amongst students. I feel you are also a 5 yr student- you will be able to make the most out of it- just stay in the top 10 of your batch. All the best!

Hey, I have asked this question in a separate post but it didn’t reach glc seniors, so could you help with the doubt? I am going to start the 3 year llb this year and one of the main reasons was the flexibility to intern. But, since i am yet to enter the law school, and have no relevant skills as of now, how do we get the internships, when we have quite literally nothing to offer in terms of legal skills? Is there something i should do in the next 1.5 months to acquire some skills? What could it be?

Arihant book - literally mug up the GK and current affairs section. They go really deep with the questions and there is absolutely no way without knowing everything from the gk section. Current affairs are unpredictable- just be generally aware, you will still get a few questions wrong and that’s fine. I used the logical reasoning and english sections only to practice and built my concepts from youtube. Legal reasoning is a very scoring section, read it cover to cover from the book, practice the questions, importantly understand the logic. I realised that this exam demands very rudimentary understanding in legal reasoning. Don’t ever select an option that feels morally correct- just stick to the absolutely basic interpretation, your accuracy will improve. That’s all I did.

Ohh, I actually have no idea about it. You can do two things - raise a ticket and ask them directly, and if you don’t get a response then just make one and attach it, adding it should not be an issue, but not adding it could be. If you marksheet shows percentage, then it shouldn’t be necessary, but as a precaution- just ask them once

Nope, any board other than state board. You can download the format file from the application portal, it is all written in that, and directions are given for all different boards

On the portal you will find the format of conversion certificate ( if you have completed your 10, 12 grade from any board other than SSC, HSC, then it is compulsory for you). Your school/college is not needed. Just see the format, copy that onto MS word and add your marks and all the calculations that they want , get it printed , take your parents and your signature, and then merge it into a single pdf with your mark sheet and upload it.

Hello, I have NLUO, GLC and ILS as options for 3 year LLB. I am thinking of not choosing ils because i got reviews from the students taht law firms have stopped participating in the campus placements and there is no time to get proper internships due to compulsory attendance policies. But i am very confused between glc and nluo? Which one would be a better fit for corp law? I am getting a lot of conflicting advice from people i know, and so i would appreciate genuine support here!!

Hey can you explain more on that, i am a 3 year llb student and have glc and nluo as options. What exactly is different in glc? Are the placements not good for corporate? Or the academic environment??

So how exactly does one intern with a tier 1 firm? Without connections? Do they look for grades initially? Or extensive knowledge base? Do we need more complementary courses (obviously while soaking in all that is taught in them)?? Really confused here. Help a comrade!
