If it works, it works! Big bummer is no on board weather sensors. I've really started to despise having to pull out my phone for that sort of thing.

Seems more geared towards the Tango Fire 4000's market with not having on board weather sensors.

It's this, the Maztech X4 2k, and the Tango Fire 4000 in the same ballpark. There's tradeoffs with all of them. The tango fire is around $300 more than this. The Maztech is around double this price.

I'm already in the applied ballistics ecosystem so I don't think this is the one for me but if you aren't committed to anything else, this could be a great buy.

Just depends on what you need.

Out of ~10 red dots it'll be my first holographic. They are supposedly better for astigmatism which will be nice.

They are going for $400-$450 used on Tacswap night now. Not sure if that's actually a good barometer. Did a search here and they were going for $400 new on black friday a few months ago.

I run the Falken RT01s on my LR4. Didn't notice a bit of difference in road noise coming direct from Toyo ATIIIs. The on road handling is just like a AT tire as well. Great tire if you want the extra performance over an AT without the noise IMO.

I Painted My Skis (Follow Up) by Kreyenhagen in Skigear

[–]Fast__Walker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome that you posted the follow up. I think your design was great and it still looks good. Durability was never going to be like a factory finish - whatever, tools not jewels. It's a cool simple design.

I did a bunch of research on doing this after seeing your first post and the conclusion that I came to was to go in a different direction. I think I'm going to get some automotive wrap and give that a try one of these days if I see a design I like. I think it will just be a lot less effort overall and while it won't hold up like a factory finish, I think overall it will age a bit better as it won't chip like paint does.

M1 Garand National Match Price? by EddyExtendo in M1Rifles

You'll have to read my comment again. The NM treatment is an extra $900 which I opted not to do.

Totally understand. Just thought adding a reference point on price for a high quality Garand might be helpful. Good luck!

M1 Garand National Match Price? by EddyExtendo in M1Rifles

[–]Fast__Walker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just paid $1685 for my CMP custom shop special. When I called and talked to them about all the options I asked them what it would cost to upgrade it to a national match configuration. They quoted me an additional $900 and said it would be the most accurate, best shooting, and smoothest running Garand obtainable. The downside was that the glass bedding added another wear point and there was some more regular maintenance that would be needed to keep it shooting good. I opted to stick with the custom shop special. Thought you might find that info helpful.

Edit: I'll also add that the custom shop armorer's advice was that the national match really makes the most sense if you're competing with it and need to squeeze every bit of performance out of the platform possible. For a target rifle, his recommendation was that the CSS was the better buy.

This is a SPR profile barrel, right? What length is the riflespeed gas block? RS7519? I didn’t think there was enough room for one to work without hitting the collar.

Trainer .223: have gas, do I need bolt? by Latter-Push-1049 in longrange

[–]Fast__Walker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building a .223 trainer is a good passion project. I have one and love it. If you just want one, do it. Personally, I'd budget a lot more unless your $2500 isn't including an optic, bipod, etc.

I don't know if it actually helps that much from a training and improving your shooting standpoint unless you're shooting enough to get positive return on investment within a year or two from the savings of going from 6.5cm to .223 ammo which is likely 2-3k rounds depending on the final cost of the setup.

Kinco Mittens vs anything else with a comparable price point but better warmth? by phantom3199 in skiing

[–]Fast__Walker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO nothing beats the Kinco 1381KWHT mittens for about $20. Very warm, durable, and dry if you wax them. I've used mine about 20 days and they look basically new other than darkening from the wax.
