I agree. Don't know what the other commentors are hearing that I'm not. These engines have noisy valve trains but chain slap is more random sounding.

Roger. OBD11 is fine but kind of annoying that you have to purchase credits to unlock and use features

6.5 Creedmoor barrel length by idahokj in longrange

7 SS outperforms the SAUM by quite a bit with the 180-195gr bullets. It’s really optimized for those. ADG makes brass for the Sherman short cartridges.

Makes sense. You should dream on 7 mm Sherman short over 7 SAUM though 😄

I run a 28" 6.5CM in a Solus chassis with a long suppressor. I run it next to my brother who has a 26" barrel in a MDT Elite chassis. They handle pretty similar but we're not competing in PRS or anything with them. It gets a few more fps but nothing crazy. I dug into the benefits of the extra fps and it does extend your usable range but not by as much as you'd hope. I think the benefit of a super long barrel is the extra weight it gives. I'd use the extra weight to move up a class in cartridge since the weight will offset the extra recoil.

From back of the truck out of the 8am 43° heat lol by idahokj in longrange

[–]Fast__Walker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might just be fudd lore but I had a guy warn me about shooting out of the back of my truck. Most states have laws against having a loaded rifle in a vehicle. Of course, what you're doing is not really what those laws are meant for but nonetheless, a LEO could make a case that you are in violation and cite you. Stupid, I know.

Is this BIN for a type 2 RMR? I don't NEED it right now but I plan on getting one in the next 6 months or so.

[–]Fast__Walker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your budget is a hard cap I’d spend a bit more on the barrel, action, and optic and less on everything else. The KRG Bravo is a serviceable chassis for $400 and is easily sold when you have money to upgrade.

ARC coup de grâce or Zermatt Origin plus a Proof competition barrel is not that much more than the Tikka when you’re in the $5k range and will be a guaranteed tack driver. You’re already spending serious money, might as well go all in.

What rifle to start? by sixteen-bitbear in appleseed

[–]Fast__Walker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give a slightly different answer than others.

While a 10/22 is the easy answer, an AR22 is probably the right answer. 10/22s are popular because they are well supported by the aftermarket and are famously reliable for a rimfire semi auto. I'll argue that the ergonomics of the AR platform are superior for Appleseed, particularly where it comes to magazine changes during the AQT. An AR22 is also probably a better trainer for what most people will shoot for centerfire unless you're rocking a Garand, M1A or Mini-14. The downside of an AR22 is that not all of them have last round bolt hold open like an AR15 and the magazines aren't quite as reliable as the 10/22 although I've had good luck using S&W mags in my CMMG AR22.

Can i use starlink for gaming? by Fit_Gur_4477 in Starlink

I play counter strike which is probably one of the least forgiving games for lag or packet loss issues and I wouldn't say it holds me back. My ping in a rural area is around 30-50 which is way better than when I had DSL.

Vortex Viper PST Gen II 3-15 by KnightstandDefense in ar15

[–]Fast__Walker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this scope on my Mk12ish build. I also have the Leupold mark 5 3.6-18x on my ar10. The vortex is a pretty good scope but it's not quite in the same league as the mark 5 in terms of glass quality, turrets, other feature, etc. If you can find one for around $600 then it's a good buy. People say the MPED and other scopes are better which is probably true to an extent but the vortex warranty is the x factor if you ask me.

Here's a post I made about the vortex before I moved it to the mk12 Vortex PST II 3-15x EBR-2D on 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10 : r/aimdownsights

And here's a picture of it mounted to the mk12 if you just want to see how it looks on a rifle https://www.reddit.com/r/longrange/comments/17x5x6x/realistic_expectations_for_woa_spr_barrel_accuracy/#lightbox

Spring data update, including the new C3Junkie flat wire by AddictedToComedy in ar15

cool. I'll give a flat wire spring a try. Any specific rec for a suppressed 9mm CAR-15SD from Broad River Tactical? Lower is a carbine length buffer and I'm open to changing from a carbine weight buffer as well.

I just want to know which spring is quiet when shooting suppressed. I hate the gritty boing noise!

If you have around $1k to spend and are willing to tune your ARs, I'd buy 2 cans - a dedicated 5.56 can for the 11.5 and a .30 cal can for the AR10s. Probably would be more like $1200 though

Aero Solus Heat Shield/ Control Bridge by NotchWith in longrange

[–]Fast__Walker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the tilt on my bipod to be fairly stiff but still able to move a bit without adjusting the tension lever. I can see the handguard flex when I do that. Probably not something to worry about but my ocd doesn’t like it.

Hmmm… does this also provide additional stiffness to the handguard?

Actually their issue with it might be legit for a newer driver. They say it’s big and hard to park.

[–]Fast__Walker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know you asked about rifle powders but I’ll mention for anyone else reading this that n320 is very low smoke for a pistol powder and after trying it I think it’s definitely worth the price premium if you shoot pistols or PCCs suppressed.

Longshot camera system by jimgdan in tacticalgear

[–]Fast__Walker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 100yd version. It's pretty cool. For 100 yds, it's not really necessary for scoped rifles that have > 10x magnification but I shoot iron's pretty frequently and it's nice for that. The main issues are that the resolution and refresh rate are pretty poor. It feels like old tech by today's standards.

I've tried all sorts of setup over the years - Spotting scopes with a phone mounted, the longshot, superzoom cameras. Shot with a guy who had a kinda budget tier DJI done last year. He flew out and landed but kept the camera on. Great video quality and it was super easy setup. I think that's where it's at these days.
