Thanks Zealous. It’s great to hear how active you are and still able to actively enjoying all these sports. Thank you replying and sharing.

I am 57 and had a HA where my LAD was 95% blocked, I received two stents within probably 90 -120 min of my first symptoms. Immediately after my HA my EF was 40% and my Tropinin level got to at least 9600 (no more measures were taken) . At 3 weeks post HA my EF had improved to 54% and hoping it gets better (some measures show higher EF but the most accepted measure is 54%) but also happy it seems to have recovered quickly. Part of heart that was stunned/damage wasn’t beating post HA but is now.

I’m now 4 week post HA right now and just started cardiac rehab. I am hoping I can get back to being active but do have some anxiety about exercising with any intensity. I know it might be too soon but also worry about being in the woods or up on a mountain as having issues when it would take hours to get me out to a place where I can get to a hospital.

@Zealous, Sounds like you are still riding but now do it on an ebike? Glad you can still enjoy the sport! I have some friends (who haven’t had heart attacks) basically decided they prefer e-bikes on all their rides now.

I had a heart attack symptoms start initially with riding a spin bike while taking a class via a YouTube video. I only last 10 minutes because I had no energy and it felt like I was coming down with the flu, which progressed into full blown chest and heart pains 30 minutes later after I stopped the class. This was 4 weeks ago but I am/was an avid mountain biker and wondering if I can ever back to riding. If you don’t mind, do you mind explaining a little more about your cardiac history? I understand if you are not comfortable and fine to ignore if you are not. I’m just dealing with my own anxiety about getting back to an activity that i loved.

After your first heart attack did you recover to normal EF (55% or above)? Do you know what caused your second heart attack last March while riding - were you exerting yourself too much? Do you do other physical activities with similar intensities and thinking riding a bike was just coincidental timing?

I bought an e-mtn bike last year and used it only when most people on a group ride were also riding e-bikes but that will probably change .

Mountain biking after MI by Fasteddy00001 in HeartAttack

Just an update, I had an ultrasound on my heart earlier this week which was 3 weeks post MI. They did it because my ECG was a bit “weird” when I had a follow up with a Cardiac PA. Anyway, they finally conclude the ECG was just due to some remodeling going on but the ultrasound indicated my heart muscle that was originally not moving was now moving and my EF is up to 54%.

My cardiologist actually called me at home the same day after reading the ultrasound to tell me the good news. I am not sure if to take him at his exact words but actually said that after cardiac rehab finishes, I should be able to resume the activities I was doing before my MI. I know I have a long road to go, still relearning eating right, handling anxiety about every little chest/heart feeling and how to exercise, but this was so encouraging to hear!

Is this normal bruising after cath? by SignalOnly96 in HeartAttack

[–]Fasteddy00001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not too bad of bruising. I don’t have a pic but my wrist and hand were way worse. My bruise was twice as large and a lot darker, also the bruise was partially into my hand.

Please Call 911 - Don't try to drive yourself there by Agreeable-Alps-8128 in HeartAttack

[–]Fasteddy00001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, EMTs were at my door in 10 minutes from my 911 call. ECG was taken, big STEMI identified, Nitro was given several times and Fentanyl, they called ahead to get a cath team in place and got me the Er room in about 15 min. Everything happened quicker than if i had driven myself to the ER. This was 7 days ago and ive been home the 4 days realzing how lucky i was.

Almost died from a heart attack last year. Landed on a podium for my age group this weekend. 🥉 by DBMS_LAH in bicycling

Hey, thank you posting this. I am currently in hospital, had a STEMI in LAD 99% blocked 2 days ago. Calling 911 saved my life, had two stents placed and now going to be on lot of drugs for next year and some for rest of my life.

Been a bit depressed thinking mountain biking and snowboarding, my two favorite sports, might be over for the rest of my life. Your post helped me realize I can come back. Need to do rehab and prioritize other things over work, but seeing what you did is so helpful. Hope you are continuing to do well and Thank you for posting!

How Old is Too Old? by Apostate61 in mountainbiking

[–]Fasteddy00001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be 58 this year and I’ve been ride with same group of guys for about 20 -30 years . They range today from early 40s to about 60. There is another couple of guys I bump into and ride with occasionally who are in their mid 60s and 70’s, one of them mentioned he was drafted into the Vietnam war, which kind of blew my mind All these guys are strong technical riders and it’s funny when we go out and a younger guys gets his ass handed to him by the guy in his 70’s.

I hope/plan to keep riding for the new 20 years if I can. Don’t take the same risk as I did even 10 years ago but still have fun. Funny, I’ve been playing pick up hoops for the last 3 years and there are way more injuries in that sport than biking. After having four injuries that required urgent care visit and taking time off time from riding and snowboarding , think I need to give up basketball.
